Newbie

Hello ladies,
My name is Lorna and I am new to the message to the board. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on 11/2/04...I plan on leaving both ovaries and cervix in tact. I am a little worried about the after effects mainly my physical abilities, sex drive, etc.. Anyone have some insight. Thanks for the advice.

I kept my ovaries but lost my cervix and I haven't had any problems with my physical abilities or sex drive. In fact, for me it was the best thing I have ever done for myself! I hope everything goes well for you!

Hi Lorna!

Welcome to the site. I am two weeks post op tomorrow. I kept cervix and ovaries. And being only two weeks post op with virtually no sex drive before I am now quite full of desire.

So far my recovery has been awesome. Makes me wonder why I put this off so long. Just remember to take it easy when you do get home and not try to do too much too soon.

The best advice I have is be prepared to drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest.

I will be having my hyst 8 days after you and will be leaving in ovaries and hopefully cervix too. I have heard that leaving the ovaries definitely helps with libido, and the cervix helps with lubrication and functioning.

I haven't had my surgery yet obviously, but from what I've read on here, about 80% of the women say sex is better or as good as before and 20% have problems. More seem to have problems when they have their ovaries removed. Not a scientific study, mind you, but just what I have gleaned from reading the boards incessantly while making this decision and now while waiting for my date to arrive.
