very discouraged

i went in yesterday for my second cervical cryosurgery. i have a "large ectropion," which supposedly causes a lot of my bleeding. (also suspected adenomyosis)

first of all, i cannot believe that they don't give you anything for pain before they do this procedure. i took a leftover lorcet from another surgery and a full dose of advil before i went, and it hurt so bad i cried on the table. he did it twice. i ended up forcing a contact out of my eye because i was rubbing them so hard. he apologized and said he has never had anyone react to cryo the way i have. i find that odd. i would imagine that it hurts everyone, not just me (?).

the next step is to go back in 3 weeks. and, if the surgery was unsuccessful, then we can talk about other options, like hysterectomy.

i find it odd that even though they can't find anything concrete "wrong" with my uterus that they want to take it out. if the problem is my cervix, then why not cut it off instead? if the problem is my hormones, then why not fix those? why are they so quick to jump on this surgery?

so far these are the things i've tried, without success:
1) the pill
2) cryosurgery (twice, still pending ...)
3) natural progesterone, both in cream and pill form
4) laparoscopy (found nothing)
5) d&c (still bleeding)

are they right that i just need to do the surgery and get it over with? the only other option that i know of for my specific condition would be a progesterone IUD. someone on here mentioned it. i am doubtful that an ablation would work since i am still bleeding after the d&c and adeno is suspected (supposedly ablations don't work for that condition).

do any of you have any advice for me? are there other options i am missing? this is my 3rd gyno. first 2 recommended hyster. i just want to make sure i have exhausted everything else first before i do it.

thanks. my concern with the ectropion is that it is probably what is causing the bleeding. i am not worried about cancer, as all of the tests have been negative.

but why would they want to take out the whole uterus for that? can't they just take out the cervix, or part of it?

I am so sorry for what you are going through. We all wish that some Dr could just tell us exactly what is wrong and exactly how to fix it and that we would know the Dr is exactly right!! If only....

In reading the second link that history lady provided, it looks like your Dr was not supposed to do cryo? And that birth control pills make it worse?

I have some suggestions on why the natural progesterone might not have worked for you as I had a problem with it causing my bleeding to get much worse and my fibroid to grow at first. It turns out that in order for natural progesterone to work correctly, you have to make sure that you eliminate all estrogen sources that are not natural. These are called xenoestrogens and are found in almost all skin care, cosmetic, hair products. They are in some progesterone creams also, in the form of parabens (methyl, ethyl, butyl paraben). They are in your laundry detergents and fabric softeners and dryer sheets. Especially strong in coffee.

After I eliminated as much of those as I could, I went back to the progesterone and my fibroid shrunk from softball to golfball as well as all between cycle bleeding.

Check out fibroid101.com (even though you don't have fibroids) and also energeticnutrition.com and link on women's supplements. Dr. John Lee's books (sold on this site) are extremely helpful on all women's uterine health issues.

Please don't have any kind of surgery that can never be taken back until you have tried all options.!!

Sorry you had so much pain with your procedure. But Kudos to you for trying to find alternatives, and not jumping into a major, irreversible surgery without first researching your options.
