Gas and pressure 5 days post hysterectomy

I had a TVH on 6/29. I feel ok in the morning/afternoon, but by evening I'm a bloated bag of wind lol....it's like gas pain and lower pelvic pressure. I'm reading this is normal and may last for some time. Any of my sisters feeling this??? Ugh....I feel like a waddling duck.

Gas and pressure 5 days post hysterectomy

Hi! Yes, I had that the first few days. Keep walking, drinking water, taking stool softeners and eating fiber/prune juice and it will get better!

Re: Gas and pressure post hysterectomy

Yes!!! I'm in that much pain I'm in in bed with heat packs. I'm also getting chronic GERD from pressure and buildup. It's driving me nuts!

Gas and pressure 5 days post hysterectomy

I have poor stomach motility, so gas and bloating are my constant companions, and the week following my surgery was no exception! Getting your bowels moving should help with that; what worked for me included regular walks, prunes and peppermint tea with my breakfast, and a green smoothie with cherries as an afternoon snack. Greens are high in magnesium, which can help to get things moving; also enjoy some dark chocolate, another excellent source. For the gas, also try fennel seeds, and avoid gassy foods; that includes legumes, onions and garlic, cruciferous vegetables, cucumbers, melons, pears, and artificial sweeteners. Also try massaging your abdomen, starting at the right hip, moving up to the waist, across your belly button to the left side, then down and across, back to the starting point. This follows the path of your colon, and should help to move everything through. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Re: Gas and pressure 5 days post hysterectomy

Hiya, that sounds awful. I've been taking a medicine containing simeticone which breaks up the gas. In UK it is called " Wind Settlers" and it has been amazing. I take one with each meal so the gas doesn't build up. Don't know if you have anything like that where you are... Good luck!

Gas and pressure 5 days post hysterectomy

Thank you all! I called the doctor today for good measure because I also had a low grade fever this morning. She said its normal for some to have a low grade fever as our bodies heal and adjust after surgery. The bladder is also knocked around a bit during surgery and can also get irritated and swollen from having a catheter. SO, after reading more, gas and bloating and pressure and even peeing more frequently/feeling of needing to go often are very common with hysterectomy. As long as the fever isn't above 100.4 and there's no pain, bleeding or difficulty urinating, it's all considered par for the course with this surgery. I think we all just want to bounce back, especially when we have been dealing for years with problems "down there" and that's why we had the surgery to begin with. I've seen it repeated many times here that we need to just let our bodies take all the time they need to heal, and not get frustrated when we have a bad day. Here's to gradual progress!!
