Scared to Death, and no real support at home

i agree with the many others who have said you will need help! i was fortunate that i had people lined up to help for the 1st 2 weeks post op. please make sure you have help before hand you will not regret this. also look on line to a service called peapod. it delivers groceries to the home thast you order on line. it was worth it for me. good luck

I agree with Maggiedog..if you are not in an emergency situation you may need to consider postponing this. I am scheduled to go in for a TVH on 20 January. I was told a couple of years ago that I would probably need a hyst, but after investigating what would be involved in the recovery stage decided that my family responsibilities and lack of a nearby support system just made it infeasible.

I'm not suggesting that you go against your doctor's advice or anything (you definitely need to take care of you , but maybe if you call the doc's office and explain your situation that they can be of help. It won't do any good to go through this and have all the benefit undone because you can't properly heal.

Hi, Best wishes to you. It looks as though you have gotten lots of good advice from the other sisters....sometimes others want to help they just don't know how to ask. As for your DH... do you think maybe this is his way of handling such a stressful situation? I would sit him down and try to explain that you really need him to be in your corner during this time. That this isn't just major surgery, but an emotional one as well. I hope this helps....Take care! Melanie

Hi I'm kind of in the same boat although the reason I'll have no support is that my kids are grown and I live alone! I have a wonderful dog whom my younger son (33) will look after but who's gonna cook shop wash etc etc?
I'm of the mind today that I'm not having it done! Or at least not in February. On Monday when my Gynaecologist told me I needed to have a complete hysterectomy by lateral incision, I was so shell-shocked, I was totally submissive and signed the Consent Form with which she presented me (odd?). This site's advice to seek second and third opinions has given me the confidence to do so. I have never actually been told what's wrong with me and I have not had any symptoms of which I am aware. This all started with my first-ever unsatisfactory smear result about 18 months ago. I'm 55 now. Anyway, I suggest you definitely postpone at least until you've got support organised.
