I don't know which surgery you are having, but I had an LAVH on 12/16/08. I'm 8 weeks out now and feel almost back to normal. I can't believe so much time has gone by already! I think the poster who said to look at the recovery threads of 1, 2 & 3 weeks out is the best advice to give you. And also remember that mostly people are going to post problems, not how great they feel. I had prepared myself to feel quite bad for a while, but that was not the case. Bm's started on about day 4 and weren't near as bad as some of the posts on here led me to believe. I was off prescription pain meds by day 5 and only used Advil for about a week after that. I did take stool softeners daily for about a month, and still have to take them about once a week. All the discomfort I had from the surgery still did not compare to what I dealt with every month.

Had pre-op appointment today
I had a TAH/BSO 3 months ago, and per my own experience, I will tell you that...
1. A cath can be your best friend. I had some trouble with the anaesthetic...it took me hours to come out of it, and I was still so sleepy after I awakened that they put me in ICU to keep an eye on me. I couldn't have gotten out of bed to go pee, so thankfully I had my friend Cath to do that for me. I could just lie about in bed and snooze until they decided my vitals were getting back to normal. And taking Cath out was a non-event...it was quick and painless.
2. Not everyone has trouble having a BM after surgery. The day after mine, I had a small bm and was very sure to tell everyone about it as it seemed so **** important!
