fearing heavy abdomen pain
Thinking of recovery from hyst, the weight of the fat on my abdomen post op doesn't seem like it's going to be too comfortable. I'm a lifelong AVID athlete who's always eaten right, but still have fat tummy and waist. I've got a fear of having my very enlarged uterus removed and then having the weight of my belly fat sinking or hanging, where my great pumpkin fibroids were. My doctor says adding power assisted (supposedly gentler) liposuction would be fine. The plastic surgeon says that would be fine. Both doctors are department heads at a very well regarded Washington D.C. hospital, they would do the surgery combined and they believe it is safe, and that I will be more comfortable post op. They also say my muscles are fab, (they better be after decades of bodybuilding, pilates, yoga, running) and that a tummy tuck is too extreme for me-luckily, Lay it on me sisters...good idea or fool crazy thinking? I'm 44 with a very fit body dispite family trait of thick belly/waist flab. Atkins, Pritkin, weight watchers, and a long, professional, university teaching career teaching dance, exercise, pilates all failed to make a dent in my slab of flab. I am more afraid of the weight of it than the looks of it, which don't bug me too much, as I have a high respect of what my body can do, even with it flopping around. Love and blessings from Noom

I, too, suffer from the genetics of thick waist and abs. Since my surgery, I have actually gotten smaller in the lower ab region. I still have an overhang, but that is subject to how much I am up and going. What I have noticed is the lack of mass that I had positioned right out in front of me. I actually feel less "floppy" now, even with the swelly belly. I stood up in my hospital room the day after sugery, and looked in the mirror to realise that I had actually lost some of the pooch that I'd tried for years to shape up .
I know God made all of us differently, but I hope my input has helped somehow.
Good luck,
Janet

I say if the doctors say okay and it is something you want to feel better about yourself, go for it. One recovery. Doctors in agreement. Sounds like a perfect scenario.

Thanks, your situation sounds like mine. I would expect some reduction in girth since my uterus is something like a 5mo. pregnancy. I can deal with the looks of it, I'm just wondering if the weight of it is going to be a bother. Doc says the fat weighs about 5lbs, which if you had to wear as a belt buckle would bug ya' I think. If I didn't take on any liposuction with the hysterectomy I doubt I ever would, don't like to miss out while recovering. I seriously am dreading the feeling I imagine of how much heavier my abdomal wall will feel on my torso void of my uterus. Hmmm.....A little gunshy to take on extra procedures, yet hate to miss the chance...and who among us sisters who work out regularly and still have thick waists wouldn't like improvement. Hmmm again...Love Noom

WoW!! You have got to let us know what you decide... I am thinking about getting implants and maybe a tummy tuck (I have always wanted a flat tummy and boobs ). I think that if it will make you happy you should go for it.
