DR post op restrictions ????

At my pre op today my DR said no sex and no lifting of +20lbs for four weeks, no driving for 1 wk, and returning to work was up to me. From what I have read it seems like most DR's restrictions are alot more intense. Don't these restrictions seem crazy? I would think I would need to be more careful. Are there any general restrictions for post-op?

DR post op restrictions ????

mine were no sex for 6 wks, no lifting more than 10#, and at my two week check up he asked me about work...I told him I scheduled the full 6 weeks off...he said good...but I think he would have allowed me to go back at 2 weeks if I wanted...

DR post op restrictions ????

My surgeon gyn (not my regular gyn) was equally vague, but also had a list of items that were followed by "as tolerated". I would have been a lot more uncomfortable with the whole thing if I hadn't been to this site.

It depends!

There are so many variables...I think your dr. will be able to advise you better AFTER your surgery. I was VERY lucky... I was emotionally prepared (look at my username, lol!), I'm in good general health, surgery was textbook, I had no complications, and I tend to bounce back quickly from most things...My recovery has been flawless. I returned to work after 2 weeks-- my doc. approved that, but added that this is almost unheard of. Had things gone differently, I'm certain it would have affected my recovery. Wait and see how you feel and what your doctor says AFTER surgery. Good luck to you!

Thank you

Thank you ladies for sharing your experience. My fear is that the doctor will push me to go back to work when I am not ready. In my job, I have to do a lot of lifting. Being released too soon could be devastating for healing. I believe I may be worrying for nothing. It is the fear of the unknown.
