Pain at 2 weeks post hysterectomy.

Hello, my name is Patricia. I am 2 weeks out from post off of a full hysterectomy with my ovaries left behind, prior to my surgery I was in a lot of pain my uterus had turned it to its left side within a matter of a few months. I went to my doctor's appointment today for 2 weeks post-op and told her where I was on my Pain Scale which I'm having still a lot of pain on my right side going from the front to the back or from the back to the front, I told her I had reduced my pain medications from to every 6 hours to 1 every 3 to 5 hours depending on the Pain. Since the very beginning she's been very odd about prescribing pain medication but she gave me a prescription for one every 6 hours and when I feel that I ask the pharmacist what qualifies as over medicating and they said taking more than what your prescription says but I just spoke to her today prior to the prescription and told her how much I'm actually using and I believe everybody is different and I actually have a high tolerance for pain. She is making me feel bad for the pain I'm in and I don't understand it. I've never had an addictive personality to anything and I've explained this to her what do I do?

Re: Pain

You are protected by the patient bill of rights to have proper pain management sometimes these doctors need to be reminded of that. I was still taking 2 oxi and 800 mg of Advil every six hours at two weeks. I was in pain so I switched to 1 oxi every three hours and 800 mg Motrin every six. After three weeks I was on a combination of Tylenol and Advil this helped so much and now at almost four weeks I have taken an oxi at night once this week. I told my doctor I am not an opiate addict looking for a Fix I just had major surgery. I think at two weeks you have every right to be upset for how they are treating you. I'm so sorry and hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: Pain

i am also 2 weeks out. they sent me home from the hospital with 1 tylenol w/codeine every 6 hours ( for 5 days). i really could've used something stronger. i have been managing with alternating tylenol and aleve the past week. you know your body, if you need stronger meds don't be afraid to ask.

Call your doctor and ask for a refill.

Thank you very much for your response it helps to know Alpha pain management for patients. As I was seeing her yesterday she also said that my right pain had nothing to do with my surgery and I need to go see my primary care doctor I was baffled I know this pain has everything to do with my surgery I don't quite understand this doctor? 2 days after the surgery and I ended up in the emergency room with a small infection inside my abdomen. The emergency room doctor immediately took me to CAT scan and my doctor showed up and said that everything looked great I had no infection and they were sending me home but I insisted that they keep me and give me antibiotics for 24 hours and the emergency room doctor agreed with me so I did 24 hours of antibiotics and two days later I started feeling better as they took my blood the next day the doctor said that my blood was better than before and normal and that they were sending me home of course which I did not mind at that point. When they did the hysterectomy my uterus was on its left side and continuing to turn around the pain was unbearable about three months prior to surgery. Everything happened so fast I did not get a second opinion and I wish I had.
