TAH and Skydiving

Hi,

I had a TAH (kept my ovaries) on the 4th Dec. I am recovering ok so far, just the usual stuff that most people on here seem to have gone through. Pain etc, sweating but cold hands (guess I'm still waiting for my ovaries to get going again).

I have a strange question. Anyone done skydiving after their TAH? I asked my doc about it and she laughed and said no one had ever asked her about skydiving before. But she said she thought it would probably be ok next summer as I was reasonably fit before my surgery and provided I do as I'm told in the early months.

I had planned on getting my skydive licence next summer but I'm just a bit concerned about doing any damage. The skydive bit is ok, it's the chute opening bit that may cause the problems.

Also, mountain biking. I asked my doc about that too and she just kind of guessed and said that I could probably start slowly at three months but only on relatively flat ground.

Apologies if these seem like rather bizarre or trivial questions at this stage but I'm just trying to stay focussed on the future and make sensible plans for my recovery. I need to have a plan I can focus on. I'm also bipolar so I really have to watch my moods.

Ok, back to the sofa for a rest. Thank goodness for the internet, awful daytime tv and playstation 2 to occupy me during my enforced inactivity.

Thanks Mrs Monkey

TAH and Skydiving

Hi Mrs Monkey,

It's my guess that most doctors wouldn't know what stresses are involved with skydiving unless they'd done it themselves. I'd suggest you also ask a doctor who does medicals for people who want to skydive, at least they may know a bit more.

Maybe also ask your gyn when you will be as healed internally as you will ever be - I would imagine it to be 3-6 months. As for mountain biking, it might be better to ask your gyn when it would be okay to jump and land from small heights and when you could bounce up and down eg in a boat going over waves. That may be something the doctors could relate to better that mountain biking because it's hard to know how rough the terrain is that you would be riding on.

Hope you get the answers you need! All the best for your return to some fantastic sports! :-)

Wow...

I am just trying to get back to my daily yoga routine and you want to skydive and mountain biking?!?!?!!? WOW is all I can say. I will be setting up a private class with my favorite yoga teacher to do an in home gentle yoga session so that I can know where I am at and how far I have to go...
daytime tv really does suck!!!! and I dont play video games, so books and journaling are my fillers along with visits from friends
