Hopefully nothing else will go to mush

Due for a colonoscopy this Thursday prior to TVH/BSO next Wednesday. Just started my period and have a yeast infection due to antibiotics for a virus. This really stinks, the antibiotics are not even doing a good job. I still have the cough and it's been two weeks. Then to conquor all, I have run out of my trial packs of zoloft. :dragon: I feel like the dragons are out to get me.

I had to vent before I exploded! :hair:

I really do have a question though. Regarding HRT, does the DR start you out right after surgery? What determines what type of HRT you take? There are so many types and different ways to apply them it's just too confusing. I just want him to tell me to take two of these and call me in the morning, or next week or even better next month.

thanks

Maria:

Here's a . Wow.... tough time with those antibiotics. Sorry to hear that.

Can't answer your question except that I have noticed some princesses who say they were given a shot or the patch right away. You might look on the post op board for more info.

Hang in there, sweetie.

My dr. told me that the HRT depends on one's age and the reason for removing the ovaries. In my case with severe endo, I will be placed on an HRT patch immediately following surgery. I will be given both progesterone and estorgen. I have no desire to deal with menopasue as well as recovery from surgery.

Hang in there, it can only get better (we hope). At my pre-op appt my doc told me he would be applying an estrogen only patch immediately following surgery so menopause symptoms don't arise. He gave me a couple sample patches to bring to the castle in case they dont have the right kind, or to try at home to make sure they work for me before I get a prescription.

At 43 and perimenapausal for the last 2 yrs or 3 yrs I feel like I'm ready for some extra hormons or something. I've been skipping periods and recently having hot flashes and night sweats.

I have not had a pre-op visit with my Dr yet. Didn't even think about it until this morn. Of course he is off til Wed. my guess is deer hunting.

FYI, one good bit of info I learned today. I went to the Hosp for pre-op today (colonoscopy on Thurs). The nurse of course is asking a 101 questions and I told her I had an infection due to antibiotics I was taking for a virus. She told me the Dr should have advised me to be sure to eat 1 container of yogurt a day. She said that the yogurt helps replenish the bacteria that the antibiotics remove. Hope this helps, as we all know everyone hates to get a yeast infection.

Yes to the yogurt. You need to keep the body's healthy bacteria while getting rid of the bad.
I hate antibiotics, I have had a disease called C-Diff four times from them, and the post hysterctomy gas pains most of us experience have NOTHING on the intestinal havoc this little bug can reap on a person. The first time I ended up in the ER in the middle of the night because I thought I was dying. Unfortunately I was having a period at the same time and they, and I, thought it was female problems.
I did alot of research on this and now when I take a course of antibiotics for any reason, I buy acidophillus and take one with each pill and also one or two daily for a few days afterwards.
My neighbor always gets thrush (yeast in the mouth) from those and the last two times she has taken the acidophillus with her antibiotics and it kept her from getting that.
You can buy these little lifesavers at any drugstore, and if you are prone to yeast or thrush or antibiotic induced diarreah it is well worth it to have some.
My surgeon runs antibiotics through the IV routinely during surgery and I FREAKED when he told me this. I talked to him about my problem and he said I could bring in my own bottle of pills, but you would have to ask your Doc to make sure it's OK for you.
Best of luck and Huge hugs from the Black Hills of South Dakota, (where I just saw we are expecting up to 6 inches of snow, YUCK)
