Any advice on ovaries being in shock after hysterectomy?

I swear I feel like I'm going into menopause. I know it can be normal after surgery when your ovaries are in shock but how long does last?

Re: Any advice on ovaries being in shock?

I am nearly 3 months out and am finally starting to feel like I'm leveling out, so it may be a while. I still have some random issues with it, so they are going to draw labs for levels in may, to give it time to completely settle. Good luck!

Re: Any advice on ovaries being in shock?

Unfortunately they don't always wake up, and because the blood supply is compromised they don't always work as well either- I had one removed it worked for about 10 months, now I have all of the signs of menopause and on HRT.

Re: Any advice on ovaries being in shock?

Sometimes they wake up within 2 or 3 weeks and other times it takes a little longer.

Will a doctor prescribe a hrt patch for someone who's ovaries are in shock? I'm having terrible hot flashes then cold and I am on an emotional rollercoaster.

Doesn't hurt to ask and if you don't get the answer you want and still feel this way maybe see an endocrinologist...I went to several obgyn before finding someone to help me. Don't give up!

Mine were back up in 2 wks. Found that DH starting a fire in the fireplace or a glass of wine, gave me hot flashes. All better now and ovulating great now. I just have one ovary and am 44. Hope it kicks in soon. kept a battery operated fan close.

Re: Any advice on ovaries being in shock after hysterectomy?

dear Kar
you basically just had your surgery girl! … give your ovaries time to wake up - and yes the other ladies are right , there are changes such as loss of blood supply etc …
I had my surgery March 7th and had almost instant night sweats and heat flashes and made peace with an earlier then expected meno time (despite having both ovary girls left). By now my night sweats have diminished a good eal and maybe it is the same for you - give it some time. Also you can have another blood panel done to see your current hormone level. Knowing is always best as you can then do your research on how you deal with it.
