keep cervix or not ?

I had a TVH in May of 2004. My gyno removed my cervix , assuring me that it was very rare that a woman's orgasm is affected by removal of the cervix. As luck would have it, I truned out to be one of those rare women. I can still climax just as easily as before, but it just feels so much less intense. When it is over (even multiples...), I feel like I am still waiting. I don't know quite how else to describe it. I agree with some of the other gals, that if you have any other option at all, do not go with the hysterectomy. I have since found out that mine could have been put off for a few years. Waddaya do? Take care and best of luck to you whatever you decide.

still stressing

Thanks for all your replies and experiences.
I guess I want someone to tell me what to do and I know that nobody can do that. My surgeon basically gave me 5 options that all come with risks. I do know that I don't want to be here again having to make this decision and feeling this emotional and this stressed. It's all I think about and I am totally freaking out about having surgery and making the wrong decision. I am 46 this summer I have had two children that both took a long time to concieve, my youngest is still only 2! My surgeon said he could just remove the ovarian cyst and leave the remaining scar tissued bit left (2 previous operations) But I feel that since I have hardly ever been without dermoids, another one will grow and I can't go through this again. Yes I could choose to keep my uterus but I will go through the menopause and I will probably take HRT, therefore my large fibroid will continue to grow which could mean more surgery. I haven't discussed having a myemectomy for my fibroid, I dont know why my surgeon didn't offer this to me. I am thinking about keeping my cervix because there is nothing wrong with it and no history of cancer in the family. This will be my third incision where there will probably be lots of scar tissue. So I am trying to make the best decison possible but at the same time I am really trying to avoid more surgery. I could put the whole thing off but I am living with anxiety that the cyst will change and I wouldn't know, I do get pressure and mild pain but I think I have just got used to it. I have give this years of thought and it will be a big sense of relief to know that I won't get any more of these vile cysts that have teeth, hair and bone . But that doesn't mean that I am not scared to death. I almost wish that I didn't have as many options because I keep going back and forth which really stresses me out and my date is racing towards me. I am so glad I found this website as I am sure my family and friends are sick of hearing me go on about it. so thanks everyone.

keep cervix or not ?

I just have to chime in here and say that having a mini period is *not* the worst thing that can happen to a woman who keeps her cervix, endo or not.

I had an LSH 6 months ago. I had a trachelectomy (removal of cervix) on March 2nd, because I was having very long, though light, cyclical bleeding and lots of cramping. My cervix *was* cauterized during the LSH. When the doc inserted the laparoscope for the trachelectomy, he found that I was filled almost to capacity with blood. The endometrial tissue left on my stump, though cauterized, bled each cycle for those 6 months in between surgeries. So I was having internal bleeding with a very small escape route for all that blood (the prolonged mini periods). This has happened to at least one other sister that I know of.

This past Monday night I had severe hemorrhaging and ended up in the ER via ambulance. Now, this had nothing to due directly with the type of surgery I had. My internal sutures were dissolving on schedule, but my body was not healing fast enough. I also overexerted myself and popped a stitch. So this was probably mostly my own fault. But I can't help but wonder if my body was not healing on schedule (2 days before this the incision for the bladder repair I had at the same time started to bleed heavily and was cauterized) because of too much surgery.

Bevvy, I don't know if any of this relates or is helpful to you, but I felt it was important to explain that there are other possible complications when you keep the cervix.

I wish you the best and encourage you to keep asking questions and doing your research before agreeing to any surgery.

keep cervix or not ?

margie what an ordeal you have gone thru with your cervix and bladder! As you might remember, I'm watching your progress with personal concern.

I am seeing the vulva pain specialist today who is also a GYN and he's going to give me a recommendation on my cervical post-op bleeding. I actually had 16 days with no bleeding this past month, previous 2+ months I bled all but 10 days. However, it was fairly heavy bleeding for 5 days with lots of cramping, pain and pressure. I had theorized I must have a pooling of blood in my stump.

Are you on extra rest now? Am I understanding you had an abdominal procedure for the bladder repair and this? The last GYN I saw said he could try and remove my cervix with a lap, but since having the ab. hyst there was a good chance of too many adheasions and he'd have to open up my incision again :-(

I hope you are healing quickly now. And I will be waiting for your next report. *w*
