Thumbs up - Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries? Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I had both removed because I had Endometriosis. The Dr. Told me that if he didn't remove them, the Endometriosis could come back. He also told me that the Estrogen makes Endometriosis grow and my chances were better if I could avoid taking it. 3 weeks post op...so far, so good.

Cool - Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries? Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I gave my surgeon permission to "take" them if anything looked suspicious. Have had a history of a cyst on the left ovary before and pain on left side. Most of my problem was with my uterus and prolonged periods. I always had a problem taking birth control pills-made me nauseous like I was doing morning sickness 24/7 so I really didn't want to attempt HRT at this stage of the game. Fortunately the ovaries were wonderful. I did have to lose the left fallopian tube due to a clot/scarring in the tube - source of my pain? Who knows? Looking forward to feelin' better. If fhey are a problem later, well....I'll have to cross that bridge then. Right now I'm into my Quality of Life!

Red face - Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries? Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

Had a TAH/BSO on Dec. 5 2011. It was decided before surgery that both ovaries had to come out due to stage 4 endo. Pathology report also showed adenomyosis and fibroids. Supposed to be going through menopause but luckily only night sweats so far.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

Kept both....now they are causing problems for me. At the wait and see period. I have hemorrhagic cyst on both ovaries. I was given pain meds by my Gyno Specialist! STILL hurting. He does not want to remove them because I'm too young (32 years old). I don't care personally. JUST tied of the pain and everything I have been threw after this Hysterectomy which was on Nov, 16, 2011 and was SAH (Subtotal Abdominal Hysterectomy) . I go back to see him on Jan 5, 2012 I guess for an different option and I know surgery will be the last option. Sick and tired!

Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries?

TLH 12/7 - kept both ovaries. My Doc found a large cauliflower-like tumor, that turned out to be benign, on my right ovary and removed it. I've been experiencing several menopausal sympotms and keeping track of them. The only thing that's really driving me crazy is the I insomnia.
The crappy thing is, my company switched medical providers and as of 12/31, I'm no longer covered by the provider I had my surgery through. I guess I'm up **** creek if anything happens to me now...

My ovaries were the problem - cysts in both. Still, Dr gave me the option of just taking the cysts or taking it all...I opted for him to take it all (cervix, uterus, & ovaries). I've had a lifetime of trouble & this takes care of future issues...now if I could just live through these dang hot flashes....
