going back to work

I had a LAVH 11 days ago, and i am not trying to brag but 80% of the time i feel great. I do have the emotional rollar coaster and hot flashes and i get tired and do need to rest during the day. I had very little bleeding and my insisions seem to be healed. I was starting to feel a little blue and that is due to the fact i am a very active person. So i called work today, i am a bartender and i made the decision to attempt work on thursday. they promised a barstool and that i wouldnt have to do much more then i am doing now, 12 ounce curls and mixing drinks, hitting buttons on a register. if i do well enough and it doesnt cause more bleeding, i may be back on the schedule. i know everything i have read says don't push it. but i have to do something, or i will drive myself and my family completely insane.

thanks for listening its off to bed now!

going back to work

O gosh being a bartender please take it easy. I remember when I was waiting tables there was a study that equated 30 hours of waiting/tending with 45 office hours. Its mentally and physically demanding.

If you do decide to try Thursday, really listen to your body. My suggestion is that you ask to call the next day to confirm whether and how much you would like to return to work.

With those procedures requiring minimal externel incisions, I think it is easy to forget this is major surgery with significant internal stitches that we don't think about. While my surgery was converted, it occured to me last night, other than one spot that used to ache alot anyways, other than the incision, I am pain free. So I could see me talking about being back to work in 2 weeks.

The other thing you need to seriously consider is people perceptions. If you return in 2 weeks, it is a short time and will be perceived as less serious than if you are out a month or 6 weeks. That perception will result in people expecting you to do more faster.

going back to work

At about your stage, I tore my internal stitches, causing bleeding that my dr thought pretty serious. Hindsight is 20-20. Out of boredom, I thought I'd so some "little" loads of laundry, start cooking again, straighten up the house, etc. Am I sorry I did. I'm now stuck in bed, because I tore those internal stitches. I had been on a great healing path! I had even gone back to my treadmill -- a very slow 1.1 mph for 15 mins per day. I assume I am older than you are. But work can wait. Make sure you are healed first. Maybe also make sure your dr knows about this, if you decide to go forward, because you might end up needing to see him/her in a hurry, if something unanticipated happens. Best wishes to you.

going back to work

2 weeks going back to work is to early. you have to take it easy and rest to heal the right way, even if you feel great. You only have one chance to heal without problems.
