4 Days till Sugery

Hello to all of you! Thank you for all your responses, reassurances and guidance so far. I have my Pre-Op today. I will be having my hysterectomy Monday morning the 13th of October. I have decided to keep my cervix, but have them remove my ovaries and uterus laperscopically. How long was the recovery for those of you that had it done this way? Did you stay the night in the hospital? What about stairs? We have a 3 level home, although I only need two levels to function, once I am up. I would greatly appreciate any advice or opinions that any of you have. My DH is doing better with this but is getting very nervous at the time approaches. He is going to my Pre-Op with me this afternoon. My mother is arriving on Sunday (who happens to be an RN) to help take care of me and my two guys (DH & DS) while I am down.

One more thing, I do have Fibromyalgia, any advice out there prior to my surgery?

Talk with all of you soon. Thank you again for being there, you have helped so much.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I had my surgery on 9/11 LAVH and other repairs and one ovary removed due to endometriosis. I still have my good and bad days but am getting better. BORED! I have a DH that won't let me do anything till I see my URO/GYN on the 21st! I had to take pain pills for the first 2 weeks then just now and then since. I was just in the hospital overnight and honestly felt too weak to go home but ended up fine. Stairs I was allowed to take once a day. I live in a 2 floor house but could stay upstairs. Glad your Mom is coming to help. All I had was DH and DS and they are honestly the greatest. Will be thinking of you. Get plenty of rest!! Love, ((((STITCHER))))

KathyA,

Sounds like you have a wonderful support system! I had a TAH/BSO but can advise on other aspects of my surgery.

I also have Fibromyalgia and had a big time flare a couple of weeks before surgery, brought on by stressing over the surgery and trying to get everything done before I went into the castle. My biggest mistake was painting the bathroom and I really messed up my neck. Just let all your Dr.s know about the Fibro and ask them not to put you into any weird positions that could hurt you later. I was really worried that I would be in all sorts of pain and wouldn't even be able to get off the commode alone. All has worked out beautifully! I have a lot more strength in me than I thought I had. Just take things slowly!

I did have handrails installed on my commode and that really helped, but I think I would have been ok without them. I also put a shower chair in my tub, which I have not used except to shave my legs! I just take my time on the stairs so as not to pull anything. Drink lots of water and walk around as much as you can stand it!

By the way, all the plans I had to get things set up did not happen before the surgery, but in retrospect it doesn't matter now! I'll have plenty of time after my recovery to put the house in order. It's only been 2 weeks, 2 days and I'm getting stronger each day, but am being careful to not rush things.

I have read threads on this site on Fibromyalgia and it sounds like some people have gotten better since the surgery. I'm counting on that as I will feel much better to do the exercise I need for the Fibro!

Best wishes and prayers to you!
