pre-op prep...any thoughts?

So tomorrow is pre-op day...I am allowed liquids only and have to pre myself by either drinking a bottle of magnesium citrate at noon or several enemas in the pm and the following am (day of surgery) UGH. Any recommendations as to which one is the least awful or at least, the easiest on the system? (I have an LAVH and BOS scheduled)

OK, I'm jealous. I am supposed to do the magnesium citrate (or,as the bottle also says 'sparkling laxative,') AND an enema tonight at 9 and one in the morning before I leave for the hospital. I'm thinking I'm going to just start with the drink and see how things go. I'm not a big fan of enemas, so if possible, I'm not going to do them.

Anxious to see what feedback you get! By the way, good luck on Thursday. I'm just one day ahead of you

I had to do both. The citrate tastes awful and I recommend drinking through a straw. I had to do enemas both am and pm.

I did the citrate (lime and chilled). I didn't think it was that bad, drank it in two large gulps and would do it the same way if I had to do it over. Just went to the bathroom alot after that. Good luck.

If you have a choice personally I'd go for the mag citrate (lots of ice and a straw). I don't know about everyone else but everytime I've taken a fleets I have cramped something fierce!

6 of one . . .

What lovely choices we get, huh? I went with the enemas (actually, that's what I was told to do). That magnesium citrate is nasty (in my opinion)! My mom did the mag/cit for her colonoscopy prep, and let's just say it didn't sit well.

Why don't you try the mag/cit (since its start time is earlier), and if you can't manage it, you can always do the enemas. They come in a two pack . . .

Best of luck to you!!!!! You'll do great!!!!!!!!

I had to do both as well. It wasn't that bad. Try chasing it down by drinking apple juice with each gulp you take. That's what I did & it was a breeze! I Had a LAVH & BSO like you're having & went home the next evening of my surgery. Good luck & hope you have a speedy recovery.
