L-side pain can you help

I have had this pain in my L-side by my pelvic bone.It feels as if it is a big knot just twisting in there.It started last night and I have a really hard time sleeping.My Doctor said that I should take a pain pill and go back to bed. Anyone in here have this and is there anything I can do to make it a little better.Just so I can sleep?

I have been having pelvic pain for awhile now. Sometimes I use a heating pad and that helps the pain, and the warmth of it calms me and helps me get to sleep.
