Re: severe constipation 14 days post op

I had SEVERE constipation that it lead to an ER Visit because my doctor thought that something else might be wrong. I left the ER with some sort of solution that they give you for bowel preps. I was to drink half before I left the hospital and then last part the next morning. I didn't work..all it did was make my tummy rubble. I then tried Mirolax..17 grams in my a full cup of prune juice! Drank 1 cup of coffee once a day. And ofcourse lots and lots of water. avoided salty foods and drank even more water. It takes 1-2 days for the mirolax to work (it says that on the bottle) One it worked..it worked wonders..no gas, no achy or crampy stomach feelings. Instead I just felt some pressure and I would go to the bathoom and be happy when I left the bathroom.

Re: severe constipation 14 days post op

I had this for the first few weeks of My Post Op. Hang in there. Doc had me drink about 12 cups of water a day..high fiber diet and daily regimen of stool softner. Colace works or the generic kind. I took two caps in the am and two before bedtime. I kept this up until it started to work, then I backed off to one in the am and one in the pm. After about 9 weeks, I was able to stop completely. Stay away from cheese or anything else that will stop you up. But most important, LOTS OF WATER! Hope you feel better soon...keep your chin up, things are only up from here!

Re: severe constipation 14 days post op

Milk of mag worked very quickly and painfree for me. Might consider that as well.
