Blood clot anyone?

Hi,
I am 2 weeks out and on Mon of this week (only 1 week out at that time) developed a fever. I didn't fret too much over it that day since my discharge instructions says to call doc if I have fever of 101 or higher for 24 hours. Mine was 100.9, and I had a post op appt on Tues. Went to post op appt, and to make the story short my doc got called into an emergency at the hospital next door, so she told me to go to the ER and she would meet me there.
She did and I also had some vaginal bleeding, but it increased at that time. My fever had gone to 102.6 on that day. She did an exam, and said it is likely I have a blood clot in the area behind where my cervix was located. She put me on 2 antibiotics and my fever broke less than 24 hours after I started the antibiotics. The vaginal bleeding has not increased nor decreased but is still there. Anyone else ever have this problem? When does the bleeding stop?

Blood clot anyone?

What type of surgery did you have? If you had a TAH, then they would be expecting a slight fever. I had a very large hematoma in my abdomen after my TAH/BSO and from the 2nd week to the present time which is almost 6 weeks post-op, I am still have some bleeding/spotting. But I am told this is normal for me since my surgery was very difficult. The vaginal cuff stitches start to dissolve usually at week 4 or 5 but I've read some ladies had this earlier. YOu might want to chat with the doc about this. My doc said that all my bleeding was from the hematoma leaving my body instead of being absorbed within my body. Keep a close watch on your temp and make sure you don't over do anything. I found the more I did, the more bleeding I had. Take good care... Hugs from me to you, Susan

Blood clot anyone?

Thank you Susan,
I had a TAH, BSO, cervix, and appendix - ectomy. My doc said my body was passing the drainage from the blood clot, and that the bleeding would be watery. I have had only the watery vaginal bleeding, nothing with clotting in it. I too find that when I do more I bleed more. I have been resting extra carefully this whole week. Have not gone on any drives except to the doctor's office, and the ER. Today I am trying to ween off the vicadin. I am supposed to be on Tylenol around the clock, because of the fever I had (Vicadin has acedaminaphin in it). So today instead of taking my 11 am dose of vicadin I took a Tylenol, the pain is only very slight, so manageable. But 1 hour after taking it instead of the vicadin I felt warm so took my temp again and it was 99.4. It has since dropped back to normal. But I am thinking when it is time for the next dose I will go back to the vicadin and try going off again on Monday when my doctor is available by phone. My temp cannot go up to 100.7 or higher. I am drinking more fluids today than the 9, 8 oz I normally drink in a day. I also sat with the fans on me and that helped bring the temp back to normal. I had no fever except while at the castle I had to get 3 units of blood. I will see my doctor again on Friday. Thanks for the reply. Hugs from me to you, Tamara

Blood clot anyone?

I am still in the hospital after a TVH yesterday. I have a fever and my pain has never been below a 7.5 pain level. I just returned from CT scan looking for clots. I'll keep you posted.

Blood clot anyone?

HI Tamara, Hope your feeling better today. You definitely have to watch the temp. this seems to be their biggest concern because infection is around. I had to have 4 units of blood myself while at the castle and I think because of all this new blood and the shock of surgery our bodies just don't quite know what to do about it. You are only a couple weeks post-op, be very careful and rest as much as you can. I had some painful days as well as tolerable days. They will come and go for a couple more weeks. Don't get discouraged because it really does get better. So, when you have the bad days remember that. Hopefully, they will be very few for you. I am just about 6 weeks now and I still have my good and bad days but I feel tons better than I did 4 weeks ago. The bleeding is now slowing down, more spotting than anything, so the light is at the end of the tunnel. Feel free to send a PM anytime if you have questions. Sounds like we have been through the same thing so far. If I can be of any help, I will gladly do so. Take good care of yourself Tamara, My prayers for a speedy recovery are with you. Hugs, Susan
