Days in the hospital
A question regarding the number of days in the hospital. I am going in on Tues. May 4th. I think my insurance is allowing 3 days in the hospital. Does that mean I will be getting out on Thurs. May 6 or on Fri. May 7. Does the day of the operation count as "1"?

Days in the hospital
In my hospital (where I'll be in 6 1/2 hours!) he first day counts, but not the day you are getting out, so Friday sounds like it would be the day.

I think when they say "days" they are actually referring to how many overnights, including the first one. So if your surgery is on Tues they have (probably) pre authorized Tues, Wed, and Thurs night, which means they are planning on you leaving the hosp Friday.
If you're in doubt though call and check. And if there is a medical reason why you need to stay beyond what is pre approved the DR just calls and extends it.
