Insorb Absorbable Staples

Has anyone had the absorbable staples? What was your experience with them?

I'm having tah 11/7 and doctor is going to use them. Sounds good to me after having metal staples with c-section years ago. Doctor says they will completely absorb within a couple of months just like absorbable stitches do, but these will be inside. Only thing on outside will be tape.

I have never heard of absorbable staples, sounds kind of neat. When I had my gallbadder out the dr used the metal staples, I went to the chiropractor, he done an xray and we could still see the staples, and that has been about 7 years ago. I didn't know they were there, you would think that wouldn't be good. No problems so I guess it is ok. Keep us posted on your experience with the new staples. I wish you the best, Carol

Update to my original post...had the surgery on 11/7 as planned and the doctor did use the absorbable staples. Nothing on the outside except for the steri strips. Doctor was very excited, I was only his second patient to use them on.
On a side note, we also used the On-Q Pain Relief System and that worked wonders for the pain. The first day they kept asking what my pain level was and it was never more than 2-3. (I felt horrible for my room mate who was always at a 7-9...even 2 days later. I was discharged and she ended up staying another day) They took out my morphine pump early the next morning and just used percoset/ibuprofen as needed. I never felt any pain in the incision area...it was all where the On-Q didn't reach. The only down side was it was supposed to last 7 days, but because it was a dual catheter it ran out on day 3. I read the insert information and I think someone miscalculated the amount needed with the dual catheters as opposed to the single catheter. Will be talking to my doctor about that at my postop appointment.

we use on-q pumps where I work and the only ting I have seen with them is they either work beutifully for a patient or not at all. Second problem I have seen is keeping them intact since the bag holder and medicine ball are heavy...people get up and gorget and they become dislodged. Just a word of advice to think about your lines and attachments before moving.

I can see how that could happen. Mine was taped down well, and didn't have a lot of line between my stomach and the bag. But that first day with the foley,iv, oxygen etc. there was just too many things attached to me! I guess luckily at that point I wasn't really moving or caring what was going on!
Good luck with your surgery!

If memory serves me correctly someone posted not too long ago (1-2 weeks) about dissolvable staples. If you do a search you'll probably be able to find the post, if youre still interested.

happy healing
