Travel?

My surgery is scheduled two weeks before Christmas. I'm having LAVH. We usually travel to my parents on Christmas. Does anyone know...Will I be able to go? Will I feel like going? How long after the surgery before I will be able to drive? Getting worried! Thanks!

It depends on how far you will be travelling. Usually with LAVH you can drive 1-2 weeks later. You may be feeling great or you may still be tired. It really varies. You might want to wait and see how it goes before you decided whether or not to go.

I am having my surgery the day before you although I am having a TAH RSO. I too am wondering if I will make it to the Christmas celebrations. I have a feeling I probably will stay home or they will come to us.

I had a TAH/BSO on 9/21 and 2 weeks later took a 5 hour car ride with no problem. That was in a Cadillac, however. I took a short ride in DH's truck recently and had a difficult time.

My hyst is Dec 12 and I'm hoping to be able to ride 20 hours to Florida in Feb. I think I should be by then.

Check with your dr. Depends on how you do, how much pain you are in (for the record I had realitively no pain with my LAVH, just a million and one complications!), how far you are traveling, etc. You might ask for an appt a day or two before you are to leave so your dr can check for sure before you venture out.

If you can go, take pain meds, pillow for between you and the seat belt, maybe one to sit on, and you might consider stopping along the way so you can get out and walk.
