From Australia, looking for ideas

Hi I'm DJ and come from Australia. I have 4 fibroids ranging from around 3/4cm to the largest being 5X6X10cm. I'm 47 years of age.
I haven't been offered any options for my fibroids just hysterectomy if they get large enough but I've not been advised on what is large enough. I've asked about ultrasound, less invasive surgery and medication but have been advised due to my age these aren't options.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Kind regards
DJ

hmmm, that's a pretty big fibriod... 10cm.. you poor dear. Are you in pain all the time?

I read about hysteroscopy, (? I think that's what it's called) where they go in through the cervix and cut out the fibroids... check that out. You are going to want a doctor who is very familiar with these tools...

Hi DJ

All fibroids are not equal. Some are very big and cause no troubles at all and are left alone... while others might be small but cause huge issues. None of mine were very big, but it was the smaller submucosal ones that were felt to be causing my flooding.

Here are some Hysterectomy Options & Alternatives Articles

and some very good links about: Hysterectomy Alternatives & Fibroids (all from our Resource Section - upper right of page)

I hope these help.

Gentle

I have just started a thread 'I chose menopause'. My situation was similar with a bunch of large fibroids and very severe menstrual bleeding resulting in leaving me very anaemic. My doctor offered me several choices other than surgery because I was close to menopause at age 53. In my case we decided to advance menopause and it has been extremely successful in treating the fibroids/ anaemia. However, she did say age is a big factor and she would not recommend artificially advancing the menopause to a woman, say 10 years younger than me. Just thought I'd mention my experience if it is any use in giving you another option.

Hope this is of some use,

Rose
