TAH: Upcoming hysterectomy: Lupron didn't shrink my fibroids

Hi. I'm 42 and scheduled for tah on Thursday, and I just found out Friday that my 16 week fibroid uterus is the same size it was when I started the course of Lupron 3 months ago. I had no negative side effects to the medication other than a minimal menstrual period for the past month and a half and periodic abdominal pains in the area of my fibroids. On the plus side, I've lost 20 pounds without trying while on lupon. Has anybody else had fibroids not shrink at all as a result of lupron?

I had the exact same experience. I was actually on lupron 2 separate times about a year apart and my fibroids continued growing while taking it both times. Like you, I also had no side effects, except the stopping of my periods which provided huge relief to me!

I was on Lupron for 6 months, last shot was in July. I gain 20 pounds. I had the mood swings, hot flashes everything. My period started back last week. Before I can have surgery, I have to be check for sleep apnea. I cried last week when my period came. I am so ready for this to be over. I am supposed to have davinci surgery. My 16 week uterus only shrunk a little.

I'm so sorry it sounds like it wasn't as effective for you either, but that you had negative side effects on top of that. I really hope the apnea test comes back well and that the roller coaster ride of menstruating will resolve for you soon, too. It's hard not having you're body cooperate. I was really disappointed when I found out it's best not to go the lavh route, and instead go abdominally. I don't want a more painful, longer recovery. But I've been trying to focus on the fact that getting it out is still getting it out. Good luck and lots of prayers in your direction, Cocoabrown.

I'm wondering why sleep apnea is an issue if you have a breathing tube? Just curious
