How much bleeding post op?

I'm scheduled for a LAVH. I just had my last period (yay!) and I'm nearly out of supplies which initially I thought was good planning, but now I realize I'll probably need some post-op. How much bleeding is there? Are we talking overnight pads, regular pads, pantyliners? I don't want to buy too much or the wrong thing.

About how many days of bleeding can I expect assuming everything goes smoothly?

Re: How much bleeding post op?

I had my cervix out & I only bled a tiny bit in the hospital. Once I was home I never did bleed at all. That can be different for other people but that was my experience. I did make sure I had some pads just incase.

Re: How much bleeding post op?

I am 5 days post op...I went in on day 3 of my period. So, I went into the OR with a pad on..I came out with one on as well. I never filled it. I have only had a few light pink "smears" when I wipe. No sight of blood since Ihave been home. Hope this keeps up! I am not missing it at all!

I am 6days post op and only using a panty liner. Only had small bleeding/discharge hardly any at all. I had tvh and thought I would bleed more. Don't fret too much the end of this is near!!!

Re: How much bleeding post op?

I didn't bleed at all in the hospital but then had spotting off and on right up to my 6 wk post-op check. I never needed anything more than the thinnest panty liner though.

Re: How much bleeding post op?

In anticipation of a lot of bleeding, I bought the big 36 count package of regular pads! I also stocked up on mini-pads. I was shocked that I had no bleeding (with the exception of some spotting after I walked too far in week three of my recovery, but that didn't even warrant a mini).

A few weeks ago I was cleaning my linen closet and noticed my huge stash of pads and had to laugh to myself. It was like I was anticipating a waterfall or something! I happily mailed them all to my nieces!

I'd have some on hand just in case though.

Good good luck with everything!

Re: How much bleeding post op?

Very timely topic! Thanks for bringing it up. I'm going in on Wednesday for my RALH.

I had my pre-op appointment with my doc today & didn't think about asking him this. Great info! I love this site!

Re: How much bleeding post op?

When my daughter comes home this weekend from a break @ school , she is getting about 3 boxes of tampons & pads. If they are not her "brand", she can give them to some of her friends at school lol...they have no business in my linen closet or bathroom drawers anymore!
I am keeping the panty liners, cuz as a woman, reguardless, you just never know =)

I'll be keeping my stash ONLY because I have three young women (11, 15 & 18) living in my house, all of whom have their periods. They'll be happy, though, that there's one less person vying for their use.

Re: How much bleeding post op?

My girls are 13 & 16..the 13 yr old has not started yet...I suspect anytime before she turns 14 in December. That is how old I was & also her sister.
They go away to school, so I am hoping that she will be home over winter break when she starts. I will probably stash one box of pads/tampons for them "just in case", for when they are home.
My 16 yr old just started using tampons this year, so I dont know what she will want.
But it is about $10 a month less out of the household budget now that momma isn't bleeding lol
