Mad at OB and hubby....

OK I am 15 days post-op and had a check up with my OB. I am still having alot of pelvic pain. It still hurts to walk long distances or very fast at all. I am still bleeding and cramping. It still hurts to pee upon starting to pee and stopping. And going to the bathroom No 2 is excruciating!
I am still extremely tired and find that I NEED to sleep still!

OK today when I went to the OB he took a clean urine sample by catheter, drew blood, and gave me a check up.
To get the urine, he had to "milk" my bladder...that really hurt so bad!! It hurt so bad that I was crying and sweating. He says that I should not be hurting at 15 days post-op. He told me that when they removed my uterus they found Fibroids in my uterus. And he said something else was wrong with my uterus too but it was some long scientific name. He drew blood because he said in the hospital I was anemic!

OK I work as a school crossing guard. I HAVE to walk fast to cross the kids before the light changes. I am up on my feet 4.5 hours a day for my job. I walk roughly 5 miles a day for my job. So I was supposed to be able to go back Monday (9/14) but today my OB said that since I was having "complications" then I am not to go back to work for at least another week. He ordered a CT scan of my tubes and ovaries.

But when I left his office I felt that he and my hubby thinks I am making this up! I AM NOT making up the pain! My poor stomach still looks 6 months preggy and my clothes are still tight but yet my OB says that my tummy is soft and not hard. What in the heck does that got to do with my pain still?? I still felt when I left his office that since there was (in his opinion) no medical reason for me to be hurting like I am, (I got the vibes from him), that I am making it up and he even convinced my hubby of that!

On the way home, all he (hubby) did was get upset because I was put off another week and we really need me back working. I felt so horrible after my appointment today. Why are men such butt heads?? LOL!!!

Love ya,
Mary Ann

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

Hi Mary Ann, sorry you not feeling well and have developed complications. Why do you feel the doctor thinks you're faking?
A soft abdomen rules out peritonitis and bowel obstruction to major causes of post op pain.
Did he say there was no medical reason to be in pain?
I do not think he would have ordered a CAT scan unless he felt it was warranted. Regardless of the results of the tests do not let anyone tell you the pain is in your head.
Are you getting enough rest? Does anything help or worsen the pain?
Was the scientific name adenomyosis? That is a painful condition that is caused by the growth of endometrial cells within the muscular wall of the uterus.
If the doctor did not give you a copy of the surgical and pathology report ask for one tomorrow. Always good to have in your files.
Hang in there

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

yes he (OB) says he does not see any reason for me to be in pain still after 15 days post-op.

I don't remember the scientifiic name b/c I was so upset before leaving his office. Whatever it was, it causes painful periods and heavy bleeding. Plus I had 2 Fibroids in my uterus and since the only thing I have left is my ovaries and tubes, I was wondering if I can get Fibroids in my ovaries and tubes? He never answered that question that I can remember anyways.

I feel he thinks I am faking because he gave me the urinalysis and it was all negative, he pushed on my belly and he said he saw nothing to be concerned about, and then last but not least he gave me a vaginal exam and said I am healing nicely. As for the pain, he says, I should be back to normal and in no pain. He is ordering the CT scan to "rule" out my pain...that is another reason I feel he thinks I am faking it. By the way he said it.

I am getting rest. The thing that helps with the pain is my pain pills and what doesn't is when I walk a great distance and with more speed.

I don't know but he and my hubby really had me upset after my appointment.

Love ya,
Mary Ann

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

Uh. What?

I had my surgery the same day you did, and also had my follow-up appt today. I am still in a ton of pain, still having excruciating BMs, am unbelievably tired, and there is no way in hail I could do fast walking or be on my feet much.

My doctor assured me this is COMPLETELY NORMAL and 100% to be expected. She suggested I don't go back to work till Oct. 7th (at a desk job) and renewed my Percocet prescription.

Seriously, what in the heck is your doctor thinking? "Everyone heals at their own rate and has a different level of pain," my doctor assured me.

Your husband needs to know that if you overdo it and go back before you are sufficiently healed, you may actually hurt yourself in a way that causes adhesions or requires more surgery. You must baby yourself until your body tells you you are okay!!

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

I had my surgery two weeks before yours and I'm still not up to working. I attended a 2 hour meeting today that went to 3 and a half long agonizing hours. Halfway through (the first break), I moved from the room to sit in the doorway where it was cooler. Fortunately there was enough people where this wasn't considered too unusual. By the start of the second hour, I was seriously wishing the old goats would dry up and let us go. My belly didn't much like it either and I couldn't wait to get home, the painkillers, and be horizontal again. I so wish my air conditioner was one of those that shuts off when it reaches the proper temp instead of always on.

Anyways, I'm sorry to hear you're not up to working. Your body will take its own sweet time no matter how much we wish it were otherwise.

Hopefully things will be better for you in the morning.

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

ladydice hi, I had the level of stress you just posted whilst I was in the hospital. I can relate to how you must be feeling. Things are great now and I'm feeling good, but I came to this support site because I was sooo upset and emotionally drained I didn't know what to do! Anyway, you will get better and I just wanted you to know (I'm 14 days post op) we are all different (as you'll quickly come to see), but it's great you can get some support here. Keep in touch and keep strong. Most of us just want to help so keep posting

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

I'm sorry you are going through this. I think, just my opinion, after such a major surgery, it would be sooooo normal to still have some pain. Everybody heals differently and I would expect there to be some type of pain still after a hysterectomy, and I would not want to go back to work as a crossing guard so soon after this surgery. Watching after the kids crossing the road, that requires alot of stamina in my opinion.

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

Yeah, I would proably find another doctor. Mine is kind of like that. He's not a jerk but he does'nt make me feel completely at ease either. Going through this we should feel at ease when we see them or have an issue. But, sometimes it's hard to get a doctor like that.

Re: Mad at OB and hubby....

Yikes Mary Ann! I have no idea what those men are thinking. It's terrible to have your pain dismissed like that, and 15 days is still very early in the healing process. For what it's worth, I'm two months post op and still ache in the mid-section. The nurse practitioner also gave me the -- well, most people are feeling fine speech -- then she told me to up the anti-inflammatories back to prescription strength and take frequent breaks.

It will get better...but if you have any reason to be concerned, then stay after your doctor, or find a new one, as someone said.
