Jess-27-Ovarian Cancer-Surgery tomorrow - July 16th!!!

This is posted in the newbies section as well, but because i am having my surgery tomorrow,I am posting it here too, as to maybe get some replies sooner!!!

Hello all!
I am here to introduce myself. My name is Jess and I am a 27 year old, mother of a four year old, who has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. They initially found a mass on my left ovary, and possibly some movement in a cul de sac behind my uterus. I had a laproscopy two weeks ago, this is when they determined this. Unfortunatly they have no answers as to why I have it...I don't fit the "typical" diagnosis...don't smoke, drink,do drugs,no family history of cancer, etc. I guess I just have bad luck!!
Today is one of the first days that I have felt "normal" after the surgery. They did three incisions for that surgery, and I am now scheduled to undergo a Left Salpingo Oophorectomy and Staging with the possibility of a Right Salpingo Oophorectomy, and a total Hysterectomy. My surgery is tomorrow(7-16-07)and so far I think that I have done well in preparing for it. My doctor seemed to think that there was a good chance of saving my right ovary so that I could have another child, then get the total Hystorectomy, but I hate to get my hopes up...not to mention my spouse's. We have one beautiful son,no one could hope for more...at least not until they tell you that there may be a possibility that you can't have any more children!!!
So as of right now, I am pretty positive about my outcome...it is an apparent low grade,so that is great...I am just very concerned about waking up from the surgery to find that I had the total Hysterectomy, and that I am at that very moment starting menopause!!! At 27!!! I really have not had much time to prepare for that. I have a zillion questions...how long will it last? will it start right away? will i hate my husband and child for no reason? will i cry all the time?is my sex life ruined? is HRT dangerous? is there hope for me???? haha! and not knowing what he will find once in there,my doctor and I haven't discussed all of that stuff.
I just wish I knew exactly what surgery I was getting...
any advice for anything at this point would be greatly appriciated...I am so thankful for having found this site...and look forward to getting to know you all!!
I have to go start my bowel cleansing now...WHAT FUN!!!
who knew this was how I would spend my summer!!!
hahahaha! Surf's up!!!
Best to you all!!!
Jess

Stay Positive

Jess, this is such a stressful process anyway but to add in the cancer factor is just plain tough, you sound like you are being very logical about everything. I hope you wake up and find that you didn't have to have a total Hys. but if you do I sincerely hope it will mean that the risk of cancer is completely gone.
Good luck tomorrow and please come back and let us know how you did.

Stephanie

peace be with you

I am glad you still have your sense of humor! Sometimes it feels like that's all we have left, but oh, how important it is. I hope you have lots of loved ones around to help you recover. Pray for the best outcome, hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. Let us know when you're feeling up to it, how everything went. We'll laugh w/you, cheer w/you, or cry w/you. I'm so glad women cling to each other when crises arrises. God bless...Michelle

Jess-27-Ovarian Cancer-Surgery tomorrow - July 16th!!!

Jess,

I wanted to wish you God's blessings on your surgery tomorow. I know it can be a difficult decision but we need to think about our health. I also can understand about wanting more children I have had two children and lost two children. However I am thankful for the children I have. In this type of surgery the outcome depends on what the Dr's find. I went in for a LAVH taking the uterus and cervix. After the surgery I found out I had a TAH. They removed the uterus, cervix, left ovary and left tube. Once again we need to pray and hope for the best. I wish you the best on your surgery. No worries the worst part is the waiting and the gas.

Jess, you sound a lot like me! I'm 30 (had my surgery at 29, 10 weeks ago). My gyn found a huge mass behind my uterus. It turned out to be low malignant potential ovarian cancer, and it's spread to my bowel. I had a TAH/BSO. I wasn't expecting all this--I went in to have the cyst removed, my gyn biopsied everything, and it all came out!

The idea of being in menopause now honestly scares the heck out of me (though I have to admit the whole no period thing is a definite bonus ). I highly recommend getting The Premature Menopause Book by Kathryn Petras. It's very informative. I've had to deal with hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia. It's rough, but definitely manageable. Talk to your oncologist about HRT. I'm betting he'll say no, b/c of the cancer. That's what I was told, anyway.

Anyway, there are a number of us here around your age, so know that you aren't alone in this!! God bless you and I'll be praying for you tomorrow. Please let us know how things go for you!
