Essure, now no tubes; had ablation now possible postablation tubal sterilization syndrome and hysterectomy?! Exhausted!

Hi Ladies,

I've read through some of the postablation tubal sterilization syndrome posts, but I'm still feeling lost. Here's my story:

In 2010, I had the Essure procedure done. In 2012, my body started rejecting it and I had a double salpingectomy (both tubes removed) and a uterine ablation (doc said it was a good idea since we were done having kids). Ever since then, I've had ridiculous symptoms. I finally sought help in the fall of 2013 and was diagnosed with IBS. Symptoms got worse so I started tracking them and realized they were in sync with my period.

My symptoms pop up the day or two before I start my period. I get very bloated (like I look very, very pregnant), sharp/stabbing pain in my lower left side which radiates to my lower back and sometimes down my thigh (rarely it is on the right side, mostly left), and I get nauseous and don't eat all day, sometimes I'll throw up all day and have either diarrhea or constipation. The symptoms go away after a day or two.

I saw a new OBGYN this morning and she mentioned it could be post ablation tubal sterilization syndrome, or post ablation syndrome. She wants to start me on the pill for a couple of months to see if that helps, and if not, she wants me to consider a full hysterectomy. That idea scares me because I'm 31 and terrified it will throw me into early menopause, but I also don't want to take the pill or be in pain for the rest of my life! I go in on Thursday for a sonogram so she can hopefully see what's going on when I would typically have the symptoms at the beginning of a cycle.

So here I sit. Exhausted and not sure what to think. Anyone have similar symptoms? What about early menopause?

Sorry for the novel, my husband is probably tired of hearing about it so I found you gals and figured I'd try here since I can't find a lot of info online!!

Thank you

If you keep at least one ovary, you won't go into menopause now. Some reports say that women who have hysterectomies go into menopause a few years earlier than they would normally have, but it seems the jury is still out on that.

I diagnosed myself with post ablation syndrome because a whole host of issues cropped up after that procedure. Besides the worsening cramps (some of it could be due to my adenomyosis, too, I guess), I started having a discharge once my period was over. It was clear but for several days, had a funny odor. Doctor ruled out infection. You know how you normally smell, and this was NOT my normal smell. It made me very self-conscious when trying to be intimate with DH. So a 7 day period (ablation didn't lighten the bleeding one bit), then about a week of discharge with a funny odor mixed in there! And another period may start 10 days after that. It was a nightmare! Now that I've had a hysterectomy, I have no more problems -- no pain, no discharge and no smell.

As long as your ovaries are healthy, you should be able to keep them and not worry about surgical menopause right now.
