Re: 18 days post hysterectomy - pain after eating
I'm new here too and totally understand how you feel. I am 21 days post op and have trouble eating due to no appetite and issues with loose stools. I have lost so much weight (thin gal) and feel miserable. Sorry I can't provide any solutions but sending you a big cyber hug.

The surgery does affect your digestive system, and as I've previously seen in this forum, it's not uncommon for issues to persist into the third week. I don't think you'll be able to handle this on your own, so I would recommend seeing your doctor. It's likely that the surgical antibiotics have upset the normal balance of bacteria inside your intestinal tract; in addition to what he prescribes, I would recommend a probiotic supplement, or regular servings of live culture yogurt, to restore this balance. A prolonged period of loose stools can also lead to dehydration, so you need to work to maintain your fluid and electrolyte levels. You can make a simple rehydration drink by adding 1 / 2 tsp of honey and a pinch of salt to a glass of clear fruit juice, or just get some Gatorade or Pedialyte; sip it slowly to minimize stomach upset. If you're having difficulty eating, switch to small, frequent meals, and avoid hard to digest foods until things return to normal; that includes legumes, onions and garlic, cruciferous vegetables, cucumbers, melons, pears, and artificial sweeteners. Also try a meal repalcement for added calories; my favourite is Vega One, which is available at most health food stores and large supermarkets, and contains added probotics. Hopefully, you'll be over this soon, and back on the road to recovery!
