Advantage or Disadvantage?

I have been scheduled for a early morning surgery. Is that a good or bad thing?

Re: Advantage or Disadvantage?

I think it's an advantage! My surgery was scheduled for 8:00am, but I had to be at the hospital at 6:00am. I couldn't eat after midnight the night before, but since it was so early, I wasn't the slightest bit hungry that morning. And I didn't have time to get too flustered that morning. Just got up, showered, got dressed, and went to the hospital. At that point, I turned myself over to the experts, and the next thing I knew, surgery was done.

Myself, I'd always rather have these kinds of things earlier in the day rather than later. Less time to fret--just get on with it!

Re: Advantage or Disadvantage?

I agree. The earlier the better. You won't miss that morning cup of coffee as much, you won't be as hungry, no time to worry....the day will be over before you realize it. You also won't be as dehydrated, meaning it will be easier to start the IV. My veins are difficult, and not being hydrated makes it even more difficult for the needle to be inserted.

Re: Advantage or Disadvantage?

mine is 9:45 so still relatively early but late enough for the DOCTORS to have their coffee!!!

I do agree - I think early is better ... less waiting for it all to start. Also, less delays.

Re: Advantage or Disadvantage?

ADVANTAGE - as stated before, you won't really be that hungry, just get out of bed, take whatever meds you are allowed to take at that time by your dr, get your shower, dressed in your comfies and off you go. When I had my D & C I was my Dr's first case at 0800 - and any time I can I will request to be scheduled early like that. Plus - your case won't be pushed back because someone else took longer...so you have the best chance of being on time. Most likely the only time you will run behind is if your DOCTOR isn't there on time, but not because of long cases before yours. I think they would tend to be at their "freshest" mentally the earlier in the schedule you are.

Re: Advantage or Disadvantage?

I've always scheduled my surgeries early in the morning, you are tired and don't have to go through the whole day hungry.

Re: Advantage or Disadvantage?

Mine is on Friday at 7:30 a.m I have to be there at 5:30 a.m which is the only bad part. I'm really glad that it is the first case of the day. As said before I don't have to worry about being pushed back because the doctor took longer with another patient or anything of that sort. And I will still be pretty tired just ready to get it over with.. Wish you ladies all the luck for any of you with upcoming procedures...
