DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
Hi all-- 1 day post op and I'm not doing so well. Had davinci total hysterectomy surgery yesterday morning -- lasted about 2 hours and I was in recovery an additional 3-4 hrs.
Yesterday in a lot of pain. Kept throwing up every time I tried to take medicine or eat crackers or have a sip of ginger ale. Threw up forcefully four times and worried about surgery port sites-- that have some sort of glue/adhesive over them--no bandages. Doctor called in a different nausea medicine about 10 pm last night which seemed to help.
But I'm in more pain than I thought I would be in. I have 5 "holes" from the surgery instead of 3 like I thought. Has this happened to anyone else?
A lot of pain when I stand up--major pressure on my belly. Didn't receive a belly binder from doctor. Should I get one? What does it do?
Any advice from those that had this samy type of surgery greatly appreciated!

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
Hi!! I had DaVinci on 6/14, I have 4 holes, though.....one in my belly button, and 3 others close by my belly button. In Recovery I was extremely nauseous, I had the motion sickness patch behind my ear placed in preop, but it didn't help much....the Nurse in Recovery gave me something else that helped. I also felt a lot of pressure, I bought something like Spanx and wore them today to keep my stomach binded and it feels much better...you may want to try something like that! Good luck with your Recovery!!

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
Thank you Kimberly. Are you up and moving around a lot? I tried to sit in the recliner earlier today and was I too much pain. Have been in bed all day. Port "hole" in my belly button has been bleeding a little, but nurse told me to expect that. I wasn't sure if tummy binder is ok to wear or not!? Thank you for your advice. I really want to hear anything that may help-- especially in regards to daVinci surgery and recovery.

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
I'm trying to get up and move at least once an hour......my Dr. said the more I walk around, the faster I'd get back to normal, but I need to rest also...so if I'm not asleep.....to walk, minimum of 40 steps each hour. I'll get up and walk around the front yard...the back yard.....around the house...I checked the mail. But then I get dizzy if I walk too much and go back to my post on the couch. I'm trying to rest as much as I can...but I am SO bored.
My belly button port is bleeding off and on too.....I just put a bandaid over it. But the Spanx has really helped....just makes me feel like everything is "tight", kind of felt like my insides were whooshing around in there without the Spanx. I finally took a shower today, feel a little better.
Cheers to our recovery!!!

Forgot to mention....I'm also icing my stomach pretty much all day long......the ice is supposed to help with the swelling.

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
I have five small incisions between my belly button and ribs . They are that high due to position of The Fibroid Family in and around my uterus. I also have a 2 inch incision on my lower abdominal.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
I had da Vinci on Monday. I have 4 incisions. It seems 4-5 is standard. I have 3-4 stitches for each incision. I would recommend walking as much as possible. I'm walking 1-2 miles a day now an off all my pain meds. We are actually going out with friends tonight. Good luck to you!!!

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
I too had 5 incision sites- with the longest being about 1.5inches & on the far right side of my abdomen. Two inc on ea side & 1 at bottom of my belly button. The 1 I actually had the most issus with was the longest 1- I think that was where a lot of "the work" was done from.
I had lots of pain the 1st week. Well, actually needed a lot of pain meds that 1st week. It has gotten better as time has passed, but still have pain at times at almost 6 weeks (but I do have problems with previous nerve pain issues).
Comfort level will improve as time passes, but I know the stage you are at is difficult. Keep putting 1 foot in front of the other.
All your sisters are here for you!

Re: DaVinci 1 day post op---have 5 holes?
Hi,I'm 5 days post op today and doing pretty well. My surgery ended up being 4 hours. My uterus was the largest one my Dr has ever done with the robot. I have 5 holes, the largest on the upper right side was the one that would burn when I would get up and walk around. It isn't hurting any more than any others now.
I didn't get up until the next morning when they finally took out the catheter. Then a few hours until they took off the IV pain medicine. Today I was only on Tylenol and Aleve. I had my first bm today and then followed it up with 2 more spaced through the day. Not as bad as I was anticipating. My stomach is still swelly but way less than at the hospital. I have 1 more pound to go to get to my pre-surgery weight. All those fluids...
Be well and don't rush so fast to be healed that you end up doing more damage.
Cheers,
Stephanie
