What is that smell?

I had a davinci assisted vaginal hysterectomy about 11 days ago. Two days ago I started to bleed a little with a watery drainage. Today I woke up spotting a bit more but a bad smell coming from the blood I think. There is no mucus or other colored discharge but the smell is strong. Of course it's a weekend so I can't reach my Dr's office. Has anyone else woken up with a strong odor but no other symptoms?

Other sisters have had this too.
It is likely to be the old blood passing out, rather than an infection, but if it continues for too long, or starts to worry you, call your doctor for reassurance.

Re: What is that smell?

Is it a chemicaly smell? Might be dissolving stitches.

It is a bit chemically. I just saw a small piece of what might have been a stitch come out when I urinated. The smell is slightly less now than it was first thing this morning but there is still some light spotting. The spotting appears normal but I didn't expect the odor.

Re: What is that smell?

I was freaking about the same thing last week. Swabs and tests came back ok as I thought I may have a bacterial infection. Dr. Said just stitches.

Re: What is that smell?

At about 10 days or so post op I started experiencing a strange odor “down there”. Not a bad odor but definitely unusual and I was concerned I had an infection. My doctor checked me and said I was healing normally. As our sutures dissolve at the vaginal cuff and the incision continues to heal it is often accompanied by an odor. I was completely unprepared for this!

What is that smell?

Thank you all. I've been so nervous and these things always seem to happen after hours or on a weekend. It seemed so soon for stitches to dissolve. It's not even two weeks

I'm having that same issue and I just had my hysterectomy a week ago Monday I have discharge and that feeling of cramping...I don't wanna be a worry wart because my doctor said these things will happen but when do I call her? Do I just wait to see if anything else happens?

Re: What is that smell?

The odor is less today but faintly still there. I'm going to stick with the same rule I has for my kids. If it gets worse then act on it. If it gets better than it was okay.
