After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

Hello All,
I decided to join this site because for the past month I have been reading about adenomyosis after having a pelvic ultrasound and finding out my uterus was slightly enlarged compared to my December ultrasound. My gyno didn't make a big deal about it and said to me lets recheck in 4 mths I said no I want to recheck sooner so going next week for a repeat ultrasound

You have to understand I have been suffering with back pain sooo severe I cant stand prior to my period on pain killers have had back injections also past 6mths been on bladder meds because I have sensitivity. I can not have intimacy with my husband I develop this urgency to pee bloating it is horrible had a cystoscopy done and found out my bladder is sphere shaped possibly now because my uterus is soo big?

I have always known my uterus was tilted back but now if it is enlarged with this tissue possibly an answer to all of my problems.

Where do I go next? My gyno suggested a surgeon if I wanted to go ahead with they hysterectomy I have read and from what I gathered there is no way to know if you have this condition until you get ur uterus removed correct?

I just want to be out of pain
I appreciate your feedback thanks

I've bumped this up and hope someone with a similar experience might reply.

Re: After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

I was diagnosed with adenomyosis. I had pain radiating down my leg, horrible cramps, a lot of pain, as if I was in labor all the time. Especially bad on period first few days. Adeno gradually filled everyday with pain and symptoms, keeping a calender and charting my symptoms helped to diagnose my adeno. Had had painful periods for years and gradually then I developed cramping a few days prior to period and during ovulation and also after intimacy. My path report showed ,'extensive adeno.'

Re: After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

hi
thanks for your reply
did you have an MRI prior to surgery? that's my next step
I am afraid of the surgery since my biggest complaint is back pain and this doctor said I really cant say you will be relieved of your back pain I was kind of upset
its a lot to think about, however it can help my bladder issues
he said because I had 3 c sections there will be a lot of scar tissue and my bladder and uterus are attached
I want to see what the mri shows maybe something will pop up there
i just want an answer to all my pain and discomfort its been way tooo long
thanks

Re: After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

I have had 2 c-sections, one almost 9 years ago, and one 3 years ago. My hyster will be for adenomyosis. During a diagnostic lap last year my surgeon found absolutely no scar tissue at all, so it's not a guarantee that you will, either.

Re: After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

i had an ultrasound which mentioned a fibroid and a slightly enlarged uterus but the doc didn't seem too impressed with this because he said ultrasounds can vary so much
a mri is a much better test to do

have to get that done next week

now byteme why are you having the hysterectomy? what did they find? what are ur symptoms or issues right now?

thanks so much

Re: After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

My adeonmyosis was a mild case, but I did have the clotting, back pain (i do have other reasons for back pain, FYI), and horrible, excruciating periods. I also had a late-stage endo diagnosis. Sometimes, if the condition is bad, it can be seen on ultrasounds or MRI. Sometimes not. Hysteroscopy can also help to diagnose adenomyosis. My uterus was not enlarged at all or bulky. I had no risk factors for, yet I had it. Perhaps you might want to ask for hysteroscopy?

Re: After years of suffering with back pain and recent bladder sensitivity,I just found out I may have adenomyosis

Thanks Elsie for this information

Did you back pain improve after surgery?
See my back pain is from other issues too degenerative disc disease but I can definitely tell it is pms related it is constant and excruciating I have had back injections no help now that my bladder is involved as well it made me think possibly its not my back its my uterus
the doctor said I cant say your back pain will improve at all

I am going to ask about that hysteroscopy never even knew about it
thanks

I am having it for suspected adenomyosis, primary symptom is pelvic pain. It gets worse every year and finally I had enough, I went into a lap thinking I had endo but all they found was "an extremely bulky uterus". My doctor and I both feel adenomyosis is the cause.

As the pain gets worse, the other symptoms start, irregular periods, longer periods, clots. The pain keeps getting longer and more often and a greater intensity. I'm also having pain during sex and after orgasm.

The period pain feels like a mixture of a contraction, uterine tenderness after delivery, a bladder infection, and sometimes the feeling that there is a knife going from the back wall of my uterus into the top of my rectal cavity. I get an achy feeling in my back but my uterus is tipped forward onto my bladder, not backward, so I get bladder problems instead of back pain.
