uterine prolapse...any success with alternatives?

I am scheduled for my hysterectomy on April 6th. I have uterine prolapse and had been dealing with it for months before I decided to go back to the doctor. I am 29 with 4 great children. I didn't rest and take it easy like I should have during pregnancy and after giving birth. I had all 4 babies vaginal. Now my stuff wants to fall out. I do have some other issues, but for now any success with alternatives for uterine prolapse? If you did try an alternative how long did it help? Any problems? Any pain? Thanks.

Re: uterine prolapse...any success with alternatives?

Hello!

Here is a link to the Prolapse section of our Resources Directory: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=27

Some women do well using a pessary. There is also a surgical procedure that re-suspends the uterus. It's my understanding that this procedure lasts about 5 years.

I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs

Re: uterine prolapse...any success with alternatives?

My uterus is actually falling out. I tried a pessary but it made me leak urine. I am not having any problems other than feeling the pressure of it and I end up pushing it back in. (it used to sound so awful but now it's just what I have to do) I am scheduled for a TVH and bladder sling but am wondering if there's any other alternatives too. Let me know if you find out anything different. I dread the post-op and slow recovery I've read in a lot of the posts here.
I had an 8+ lb baby and have been lifting heavy stuff pretty much my whole adult life and like hiking so I guess put those all together w/ being just over 50 and ta da the muscles give out...

Re: uterine prolapse...any success with alternatives?

Mine isn't quite out but my cervix is right at my vaginal opening. I don't even have to put my finger in really to find it. Normally I was very high and tilted back. I've been trying to find other alternatives but most don't really have a long success time. The uterine suspension works for about 5 yrs but I don't want to go for surgery that often. I haven't had a chance to really research it, but I wonder if it also comes with a lift restriction. My doctor said the pessary isn't really all that effective and actually can cause other issues like discomfort, leaking urine, lots of doctor visits for cleaning, and can rub and cause sores. He said something about mesh but it doesn't last long either. He said (and so did my 2nd opinion) that in his experience that a hyst is really the most effective treatment, especially for long term. But, I'm a researcher and I wanted real life opinions and experience from women who have dealt first hand with the issues and alternatives. I'm not in a lot of discomfort from the prolapse but I do feel pressure and an almost constant cramping. Plus the pressure on my bladder and feeling like I always have to go and can't quite empty it is a bit of a bother. I dread the post op as well! I'm a mess pre-op, I can't imagine after. Especially with the little ones running around. I'll keep on researching though and I will post if I find anything else. Thanks for your reply!
