I have my first estrogen patch, but haven't put it on...

Wondering about those of you who have had surgical menopause and have gone on the patch...

Did you have any side effects?

Or, did it go as I hope it will go: your only thing you felt was better!!?

Eager to hear...

Thanks,

K.

Re: I have my first estrogen patch, but haven't put it on...

I had one put on me the day after my surgery and am now almost 8 weeks post-op. I'm on Climara .1mg changed once a week. As far as I can tell I haven't had any systematic side effects. Only side effect I can attribute directly to the patch is red, itchy skin where the patch was applied. Other than that, I feel really good. As an experiment, I relocated the patch from my abdomen to my hip and have been experiencing symptoms all week - night sweats, hot flashes, etc, so I will be putting it back on my abdomen tomorrow. A lot of women feel better when they wear it on their hip, so that's just me.

Re: I have my first estrogen patch, but haven't put it on...

I had a patch put on at the end of surgery. The patch itself had two side effects for me - once I ended up with red itchy blister bumps underneath it. Never found out exactly what it was but have not had that repeat. The other thing is I have sensitive skin that reacts to many things. I have circles on my body from where they put the heart monitor and that is 6 weeks later. But!!! I found that if after removing the patch I use baby oil to remove ALL residue of the adhesive the circle reaction to the patch goes away pretty quickly. If not, then it is the same as the heart monitor things. Other than that no negatives.

The rest is just my body adjusting and finding it's leveled out need for estrogen. I have been lucky with only a few mild estrogen side effects finding the right prescription.

Good luck with your patch!

Re: I have my first estrogen patch, but haven't put it on...

I was put on Vivelle Dot .05 on the 6th day after surgery. I am now just a few days short of 8 weeks postop, and have had 0 problems with side effects. I feel fantastic! I have had maybe 2 mild hot flashes and that is it. I put it on my abdomen, switching sides when I change it. It does leave the adhesive residue, but I just put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad and rub it off. Wishing you all the best!

Re: I have my first estrogen patch, but haven't put it on...

I was placed on the Vivelle dot .025 immediately following surgery. The only time I have experienced hot flashes was when I did not follow directions and put the dot on my back hip instead of my abdomen. All else has been good.....

Re: I have my first estrogen patch, but haven't put it on...

I had an estrogen shot in the recovery room and was put on Vivelle dot .05 from week 2 on. I have felt nothing but great. The only side effect I have is the adhesive can make me a little itchy especially after i remove it (kinda like band aids can get itchy). But I learned that you have to wash the site with some good soapy water and a cloth after you remove it and then it's just fine.
