Swelly Belly
What is swelly belly? I'm having a LAVH with 3 small incisions (one above each ovary and one along the hairline). Do you get swelly belly with this procedure or only with a TAH?
Sorry for all the questions but thank you for your help.

Swelly Belly
I had a LAVH/BSO with only 3 little incisions, and I still have swelly belly. I've never heard a real scientifc description of what causes it, but I would guess it is the trauma to your insides. Inflammation and swelling seem to take a long time to go away. I've heard it compared to a twisted ankle, it swells and if you stay off of it, it gets better, but if you overdo it, it swells back up again. Seems to be the same for my swelly belly!

Jana, do you have the swelly belly band? If so, does it help alot. If not, what do you use?
Thanks.

Swelly Belly
I do not have the swelly belly band. My swelly belly has felt tender, so having something tight across it doesn't sound good to me. I have not used support panties for that reason either. I got BarelyThere panties from JCPenneys, very soft and no tags or seams. And I'm back at work wearing "stretch pants." With an overshirt or untucked shirt or jacket/blazer. Dressing for work has been a challenge, I usually wore khaki pants or colored jeans, but they were too uncomfortable for me. I can wear them now, but by the afternoon, they feel tight and uncomfy. So, the stretch pants have been very comfy. I haven't been able to find anything that makes my belly not swell, except laying around, which I can't do now that I've gone back to work. Hopefully with time, it will go away!

What type of job do you have? How long were you out of work? What does BSO mean?
I have an office job where I'm sitting most of the time and really don't have to lift anything but some papers. I usually wear dress pants and loose shirts. I'll be going back to work probably the middle of December so I'll be able to wear loose sweaters.

Swelly Belly
I had a TVH and had a slight swelly belly for a little while. For me, it wasn't too terribly bad and it did go away. You can read about swelly belly in this HS Article:
Tummy - Swelly Belly Help
BSO is the abbreviation for bilateral salpingo oophorectomy which is the removal of both ovaries and tubes. If a woman only has the right or left ovary removed, the abbreviation would be RSO or LSO. You can find a list of frequently used abbreviations here.
Hope this helps.

Swelly Belly
I teach at a university, so it is mostly an inside job. Sometimes we have field trips. I went back to work after about 7 weeks, and started with half days. Then at 8 weeks our classes started and I had to be back full time. BSO = bi-lateral salpingo oopherectomy, removal of both tubes and ovaries (from https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/announcement.php?f=3 where there are lots of definitions of abbreviations used here.
