Any Hystersister Have A Prolapsed Bladder Due To Their Hysterectomy??

Ive heard that when you have a hys you may be prone to a prolapsed bladder ? I thought that this was mainly happening when woman have had many children. Does anyone have info. on this. What is holding our bladder any way? since our uterus is gone.

If you go up to the search box and click on it and then type in prolapsed bladder you will be able to read about women who have had it or know more about it. Some dr. will create what is called a bladder sling and then of course there is the vaginal cuff that helps too. I haven't had any problems in that area yet...but there is old gravity(our best friend ) You may never have a problem with it at all.

All I can tell you is my bladder is fine. Never had problems with it. And I had a hyst over 5 yrs ago. For that matter, I also had 2 babies prior to that. So I guess if one was going to have a prolapse bladder because of either of those issues, I am far enough out I should be having issues and I am not. But, we are all unique, so you should ask your dr this question.

I just wondered about it. o.k i looked in the reproductive book and wanted to see exactly where the bladder lies,which is under the uterus not over the uterus,therefore shouldnt cause problems for hysterectomies.It is not clear however,what holds the bladder.Anyone know ? in the book it does not show what is holding up the bladder??anyone??

After my mother had her hysterectomy she had to go back a few years later & have her prolapsed bladder & rectum repaired, however she did have 4 children so I'm sure that played a part in it too. I'm curious to know what holds up the bladder too. I know ligaments hold up the uterus & if they are stretched or damaged it can cause prolapsed uterus which is what I have so I guess maybe ligaments and muscles hold up the bladder. I guess that's why they say to practice your kegel exercises to help prevent/help these problems. Anyway just my Hope you find all the answers you're looking for!

My dear mother who is 86 had her hystectomy for prolapse at 30 something. She had the bladder put back in place then and bowel repair also.

She has had no problem until this past year. She has some leaking. Now it may be just old age.

I am scheduled for hyst. for prolapse and wouldn't it be wonderful if my outcome was as good as hers !!!!!!

Hey thanks for the replies ladies. Its interesting to get everyones input and different perspectives of things. Janet it must(the bladder) be held by the ligaments and muscles, so strange not in these books i have. Oh well, what the heck lolas long as we are all good in that department
