Pedicure okay?
Hello sisters,
I have a silly question - I'm doing my best to relax before my TAH/BSO this coming Wednesday. I would like to go get a pedicure this weekend. Is nail polish okay? Did any of you have "pretty toes" before your date at the castle??

Check with you doctor on the nail polish - I was told that I should not have any on - fingers or toes.
Good Luck!

Pedicure okay?
It's amazing how diffferent the do's and don't's are for different hospitals. I couldn't have nail polish or make-up, but I also had to do a bowel prep and douche the night before. Check with your doctor. I've learned that there are no silly questions. Besides, we aren't trained in the profession and we definitely haven't done this before.

Pedicure okay?
I kept my hands clear of polish but I definately had my toes done. They all commented in OR about how pretty my feet looked. I told them all I figured it might be a while till I got down there again. They probably commented because it wasn't suppose to be there. Wouldn't you figure, if it was so important, they'd keep a bottle of polish remover?
My Dr didn't tell me no polish. I know they check you fingernails though. I"m not sure why, maybe to see if you're turning blue?
I also asked if everybody washed their hands in OR. It was so funny to here about 7 people, including my surgeon, yell "YES"
I'm so glad to here you are relaxing. I figure the Drs are the ones who should worry before surgery- they're the ones who have to perform. Alls I had to do was show up and sleep!
I wish you a speedy recovery!

I don't see how toe polish would matter in most cases. My doctor insist that her patients wear the ted stockings that cover from the smallest toe to your upper thigh. They are hooked to some type of compressor and I had to wear them until the next morning when they disconnected the IV, Cath, and all other gadgets.

Pedicure okay?
Here in California there was recently a big investigation of those places that do pedicures because ladies were getting these awful infections on their legs. It's because it's so hard to sterilize the foot baths properly, even if they change the water frequently, and once the bad bacteria get in there, they get really strong, and these poor women were ending up with scarred legs after weeks of antibiotic treatments.
So I think I'd stay away from a pedicure just to be sure my legs and feet weren't carrying any bacteria with me into the hospital.
The best way to look pretty is to smile!

Pedicure okay?
Hi Jand
Just ask your Dr. since it looks like every place is different.
I did, and he said it wasn't a problem anymore since their instruments could "see right through" any polish. There were two different things they hooked up to my finger, that I think both did the same thing, measure the amount (%) of oxygen in the bloodstream (one was taped to my finger for 2 days, the other like a clothespin they hooked on just when they did blood pressure checks every few hours). I think today they probably use those methods because they are more accurate instead of just judging the color under your nails. The make-up was a definite no-no, they said it would interfere with the anesthesia?? oxygen mask maybe?? but I did condition my hair the day of surgery, figuring it would be a few days before I could get to that as well!
Good luck next week, I'm sure you'll look beautiful in any case!
