Cyst on Ovary

Hi.
I couldn't really find a spot to post this so I guess I'll start here.
I had hysterectomy June 28, 2006 due to Placenta Percreta. I still have my ovaries but no uterus or cervix.
Although it has been a year I am still having incisional pain (goes from top of my belly button down, the incision, that is) and pain on my right side (most likely my ovary at ovulation).
Finally got in to see a GP (we are Air Force/Tricare so that's another long story) and she ordered an u/s which revealed that I have a cyst measuring 5.47 cm on my ovary. She put in a referral to GYN and I will see them on October 2nd.
I know that cysts are common. But I'm just trying to figure it all out after the hysterectomy. I'm also trying to avoid "googling" because according to them you could die from a hang nail. To me that seems like a big cyst.
Any input would be appreciated.
Just trying to figure out my new "normal."

Cyst on Ovary

Jessica:

From the information I have gathered, anything over 2 cm is a concern. It sounds like yours is on the larger side. My daughter, at 18, had a 11 cm cyst and they had to remove her ovary and fall tube. I have had them off an on, and they put me on the pill. They usually took a "wait and see" attitude to see if it would clear up on its own. Most times they do in 2-3 months. Hope this helps answer your question.

Kelly~
Thanks for your reply.
It's good to know what experiences other people have had. We are at a training hospital and from what I hear (we just moved here) it seems like they are eager to do any procedure. I guess I'd like to know a little more before I go in to see the doctor. That way if they suggest something (surgery etc) I can know if it's reasonable or if they just want practice.
Thanks again,
Jessica
