4 1/2 hour drive to and from the castle

My castle is over a four hour drive away. DH is taking me up the day before for pre-op and we will spend that night in a motel. My Dr. said she would keep me in the castle two nights because of the drive. I am having a complete vaginal hysterectomy, ovaries too (LAVH/BSO ?) Any suggestions for what to take with me for the long drive home? DH said it would probably take us more like 7 hrs to get home with lots of stops. Thanks for any advice, Flipper

pillows and lots of them

2.5 hour drive for us one way. Pillows under your bottom, behind your back, under your feet and under the seat belt will cushion things a lot. A light blanket too. Toss a couple of towels in since you can fold those to pad your body. And scope out possible rest stops on your way to the hospital.

By the time you are discharged, you will be on oral meds. Time it so you pop those minutes before you load up. And stress to your doc that you need strong meds for the ride. No time for wimpy stuff, insist on percocet.

Those hotel rooms with a kitchenette are my preference for post-op stays. And you want two beds, you'll rest better sleeping solo. Take along a heating pad, gas meds, motrin, and get online and find out the location of your favorite chain pharmacies. Hospital will provide an ice bag that you can take home with you.

I would also take along an assortment of teas, drinks and snacks to prepare in the hotel room. Important to stay hydrated post op and flush out all the anesthesia drugs.

On the hotel, check with the castle, they sometimes have arrangement for discounted rates with local hotels for out-of-town patients. Have to tell the hotel you are medical patient. Homestead studio suites are pretty nice, kitchette and they offer special internet rates of $50 a night. They have a web site you can google for.

pillows

Thanks for the tips. I called Phoenix Inn and they offer a discounted rate for hospital stays and they are a suite. I enjoy your sense of humor in other posts, keep it up! Flipper
