Is the pain comparable to c-section?

Hi,
I'm new to this board and my big day is next Wed. For those of you who have had both surgeries, how would you compare the pain? The same? More?

Is the pain comparable to c-section?

I asked the same question before my hyst. I got varied answers. My recovery from the hyst has been amazing. I had 2 csections that went pretty well too. I didn't have a brand new baby that required my immediate constant attention. I was able to lay on the couch all day every day and just rest. My incision didn't hurt as much, I think because they didn't pull a 9 1/2 lb baby out of it. Had less staples and better pain meds. I also didn't have those pesky milk filled breasts to deal with. I'm 4 wks post op and already sleeping, quite pain free, on my stomach. The biggest difference I've noticed is the fatigue that comes with this surgery. You start feeling really good and dont realize you are overdoing it and then BAM you're on your back for two days. You keep thinking the time has passed that you shouldn't still get so tired but you do. Its amazing how hard you fall even though you feel so good. My first week and a half I had no hormones because my ovaries werent working yet. The hot flashes and mood swings are a little intense to deal with while recovering from the surgery. Coughing, sneezing and vomiting are all really bad ideas in the first 2 weeks. I experienced all three.

All in all I think I'd do this surgery again before the csection. But remember everyone is different, your recovery may be worse or better. Hope this helps.

Thanks

My mom is trying to prepare me for the pain having gone through this as well. I've had 2 c-sections, she had the hyster. Everyone's perception of pain is different. I had no problems after my c-sections either but my mom is just trying to prepare me the best she can. Thanks for your input!

Is the pain comparable to c-section?

Well, I would take the c section over the hyster but I know that everyone's different. I have a vertical incision and I had pain in the muscles in my abdomen that I didn't have with the c section. Nothing unbearable, mind you, just more pain with the hyster. It probably depends on the reason for the hysterectomy. I also felt more tired this time but of course I am a little older now I hope all goes well with your surgery. Remember, every day it gets a little better!
