Hey Button - hang in there! I'm happy to hear that you have made the first step and got an appointment! I also wanted to mention that you might want to take your DH with you?? I took mine (and still am) to ALL my doc appointments - it was hard for me to get him to understand what all was going on with me - physically, mentally, horomonally! My doc really was quite impressed that my DH stuck through it all right by my side - he would have been in surgery if he could have been! Anyway - it might be something to consider - that way it also takes the pressures off of you trying to explain why you feel like you do and to help your hubby understand what you're going through. AND take a list to your appointment - you'll be happy you did!
Hang in there....thinking of you!

Unbelievable
Update from the crazy-lady :P
I went in to see my gyn on monday...he was very kind and it's his opinion that my issues are *not* hormone related, as i am not having other symptoms like hot flashes, etc. He wrote me a prescription for wellbutrin, and scheduled a follow up appt for me in 8 weeks. I am not overjoyed at the prospect of taking anti-depressants, but i am so miserable at this point i'll try anything.
But there always has to be a drama, it seems, because my insurance company refused to pay for the wellbutrin without authorization from my doc. I had to call his office and give them this number for him to call, and now i just wait, as the pharmacists says it can take as much as a week or more for the authorization to go through. I feel like i am at the end of my rope. i used to be such a happy person, and now it just seems like my life is caving in on me and i can't even do anything to help myself thanks to the evil evil insurance company. Why on earth would they deny my 'script?? It's not like it was for painkiller or some sort of controlled substance!!!! I just don't get it.
So that's where things stand in button-world. So frustrated.

buttonbox - I'm surprised! Eight years ago, my Dr did a blood test to determine if my hormones were regulated or not. At that time they were, due to post partum, but I was not having hot flashes, etc. Mine was mostly depression, crying for no reason, etc. When you go back to your Dr you may want to ask if he will check to see if your hormones are regulated or not. I'm so sorry. Keep your chin up and keep us updated. And you are NOT crazy!

Buttonbox, hang in there! Please let your doc know that they need to call to authorize your Rx immediately, then you can call the insurance company and check on things so they won't get delayed. Another idea might be to ask your doc if he/she has any wellbutrin samples that you can start now.
Take care!

The insurance companies want pre-authorization because Wellbutrin is also used for smoking cessation and most ins comps do not pay for THAT so a doc has to tell them it is for depression...good luck to you...I agree, the doc should draw blood if for nothing else but to satisfy you (and us) in knowing your hormones are where they should be.

One more tidbit re: antidepressants. They take time to build up in your system.
Over the past 15 years I've been on Welbutrin, Lexapro and Celexa. I'd say you need a solid 6 weeks to start reaping the benefits. So please don't feel discouraged as they are not an immediate fix.
You'll need to take extra care to get enough restful sleep.... Fresh fruits and vegetables and sunshine! Slow deep breathes can do a lot to relax you. Deep breathes sounds kind of silly, I know... but it has been the one thing I am solely in control of, and it works remarkably well, as simple as it may sound.
Hang in there.... you know it will get better... it just takes time.
My prayers are with you, just breathe!
