New here and awaiting surgical opinion on repeat myomectomy vs partial hysterectomy

I'm a 35 yo without children (and single). For the past year I've been battling with menorrhagia which was aided by Mirena IUD last September. Unfortunately, it was expelled in April of this year by a fibroid. My blood counts plummeted in less than a month. I had a myomectomy and D&C in June during which the surgeon was unable to excise the entire fibroid without compromising fertility and going through the uterine lining. The bleeding started all over again just 3 weeks later, this time tanking my blood counts so low as I had to be transfused (on my birthday, no less!). I sought further help at the Cleveland Clinic, where I was put on Natazia and Ponstel. The Ponstel works somewhat well for bleeding and cramps but the Natazia is no longer controlling the bleeding. I had an SIS last week (which showed a new polyp), and am scheduled for an MRI in 2 weeks and my surgeons are in process of scheduling my surgery while my blood counts are still good. They THINK they MAY be able to do another (successful) myomectomy but aren't sure til the MRI. I hate to say it but I'm not feeling positive about a repeat myo--if it couldn't be gotten before, what would change now? Personally, I am very scared that the problem will recur if the uterus is left. Are these fears unfounded?

Re: New here and awaiting surgical opinion on repeat myomectomy vs partial hysterecto

Oh, bless you. I had my surgery a few months ago at 36 with no children. My fibroids were putting me in danger. I pray for your peace as you make this decision-I know it is not easy. I have absolutely no regrets and wish I would have done it sooner. I cannot comment on your particular situation but please know that I, and we, are all here for you and will help you throught this tough time. God bless.

Thank you! I feel the same about my fibroids...I am quite literally bleeding/hemorrhaging to death. In the 2 weeks prior to my first surgery, my hemoglobin dropped by half...my doctor was astounded. The bleeding is back with a vengeance, and all I can do is hold on until its time for surgery...I pray it's before the end of the year...Ieet with the surgeon Nov 1.

Thanks again for your kind words!
