scheduled for February - hoping for some feedback

I have had 6 + Laporospic surgeries so really it doesn't seem like a big deal to me, this is why I have joined this site so I can get some more feed back.

What to expect what do I need to do before surgery as well as after, and is anyone from my neck of the woods??

Re: scheduled for February - hoping for some feedback

Not sure what type of surgery you are having. This will change a lot of things depending on the type of surgery. Before the surgery I was very nervous. I did ask my doctor lots of questions about the surgery and what he was planning to do. That also will help you know how long you will be in the hospital. For me it was just overnight so I took a few magazines to read, my toothpaste, hair brush, a change of clothes. I would plan to make sure you have everything that requires a lot of work done before the surgery. You may be tired after and will definitely need to rest. This is pretty general information but as I had said earlier, the type of surgery will affect a lot of post surgery recovery as far as time and different complications. Welcome to the site. I am sure that you will find more answers as you continue on this process.

Bellabennet -

You can check out the Hysterectomy Checkpoints for information on pre-op and various stages of recovery from hysterectomy.

Also in early January we will be resuming our pre-op chats, if you look at the right side of the screen you will see referenes to them. You may find that informative as well.

Re: scheduled for February - hoping for some feedback

I am only speaking from my experience with Davinci hysterectomy. My recovery was fairly quick as I left the hospital within 23 hours. I was feeling pretty good but had some pain. Mainly I was tired. In the hospital, I slept a lot. Then they had me start walking the next morning. The one thing I had was shoulder pain from the gas they use in the surgery. Some people say it isn't too bad, mine was horrible. Wish I had known about Gas Ex strips-they really helped. I found that for the first few weeks that I was very tired and slept. I made sure to walk around as much as I could. I returned to work in 2 1/2 weeks but overdid it. I worked 50-60 hours and I paid the price. Listen to your body and let it recover. I would definitely read the checkpoints, they are a godsend. Hope this helps some.

Re: scheduled for February - hoping for some feedback

Hi there,
I can relate to you, I also had several lapro surgeries prior to the big LAVH! I got to leave only my left ovary in. (everything else out including cervix.) It wasn't much different from the rest. All of my laproscopic incisions were gone 4 days after surgery. I was pretty amazed! No pain what so ever in the vagina area. I was up and walking around a half hour after the surgery, stayed one night in hospital just to be on the safe side and it was totally worth it. I am 31 years old and my surgery was the 19th of November. It's easy to over do it because you forget. I get really tired and feel a lot of pressure down there if I've done to much. The worst part was the worry and anxiety BEFORE the surgery. The Gas Pain from the lapro was the worst part after surgery, but that only lasted a day. Gas relievers will not work in relieving it because those are for intestinal gas. Best advise is to lay on your side and just know it will be over before you know it. You may already know that with your experience. I'm 3 weeks post op and have had some internal pain where stuff was removed which is very normal. I know it's all healing. I can't wait to be released at 6wk post-op so I can return to the vacuming and stuff. Other then that I'm doing great, and feel no different other then I'm missing parts. I think you will do great!!!! I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, and no more red ones! Welcome to the sisters! Keep me Posted!!!

You aren't and shouldn't be totally bedridden but as you said no housecleaning. After the first couple of weeks I could nuke food in the microwave but left dishes for DH to clean up.

I plan on taking as long as I want dont want to hurt myself and I am a very stubborn person so to stay in bed will be hard I'll probally want to go out shopping the next day after surgery hehe
