TAH on Wednesday - sick as a dog, need advice!

Hi!

My TAH is scheduled for Wednesday and I am feeling mentally ready for it, just the physical part is letting me down.

I went away for a few days to relax before my surgery, came back with a viral infection of some sort they think, rather than a bad cold.

The Dr put me on antibiotics last Wednesday to help with chest congestion and that is loosening a bit, but I am sooo congested in my head and nose, I am starting to think that it is really doubtful that the antesthetist will do the surgery for me.

I have called the surgeon's office and they have said 2 different things - call today and tell them that I am still sick or wait until Wednesday morning and see what the Drs think then.

If my surgery gets rescheduled again, it would likely be the summer i.e. June or July, by which time I think I will be ready to do the surgery on myself!!

What would you do?? Anybody had a similar experience and what happened? HELP!!!!

There are several threads where LIW have posted about their surgeries being rescheduled.

You may find some insight on one of those.

I'd call the doc handling the cold and tell them I need a decongestant for my head. For some stupid reason my doc seems to handle just the chest part of a cold and I have to keep reminding him my head is about to explode.

Good luck!
I hope things clear up for you by tomorrow

Hi!

I would definitely call the doc handling your virus if you really want your procedure to happen on Wed. As an asthmatic with severe allergies, I know there are plenty of medications out there to handle nasal congestion & inflammation, including topical nasal inhalers. If you are going to try this route, I'd be sure to let the treating physician know that you are scheduled for surgery Wed. & can't use any drugs that would affect your procedure. Maybe you could get a list of drugs from the hospital or whoever did your pre-op so that none of what could be recommended or prescribed is given to you. Good luck & I hope all goes well for you.
