New and scared

Hi everyone my name is Erin I am 37 years old.
I am out searching for support and I appreciate any advice and help. Let me start here...in March of 2010 I was getting ready for work one day all bubbly and happy and all of a sudden my heart took off on me I felt dizzy and my blood pressure went up 180/110...I imediatley drove myself to the ER. Got in and saw a female Dr. I swer I could not hardly breathe when this happend. Anyhow I was brought to a room nurse was very nice. Dr. came in and started asking me questions of what was happening how I felt if anything in my life was going bad etc etc...she felt that I had anxiety so she put me on a pill to help with this. I can say her talking with me in the room for awhile brought my BP down and also my heart rate went down too. But she diagnosed me with anxiety...I am like what? I am not worried about nothing. She said sometimes this can happen they do not know why. I started taking the pills, they helped me I felt out of it most the time but was ok...all this time and a year before I always had bad periods and horrible pains sex was a no go as it hurt me so badly. Anyhow she did order a pap test came back something not right. Went to have vaginal ultrasound and also ab ultrasound. Came back I have a uterus full of clusters of fibroids. Periods heavy painful clots. I can hardly sit at work some days hurts so bad. Now I have this weird beating in my heart around the time I have my periods but it really does not affect me when my periods are over with. I feel this is connected like mabey the fibroids are against something I know for sure they are my bladder I have to go all the time. Well now because of this I am seeing a female obgyn...she did a pap on me tested my cervix thank you Lord no cancer. But Now I am looking at the option of having my uterus taken out just the uterus... Ladies I am scared...Please if you have any advice for me please please share...I hope all this makes sense to somebody out there but I think even though the fibroids put me in so much pain the heart palpitations scare me the most...I mean is this normal? has anyone else had the heart beating faster around time of periods? any advice would be so greatly appreciated. I guess this is where I start? I am sheduled for surgery some time in August..I have to see my Dr again this June 25th. I wish all you ladies well and I am here for all of you if you need somebody to lean on. Thank you so much

Re: New and scared

Hi Erin,

I too ended up going to the doc about 3 yrs ago for "funky" heart beats. The doc told me it was anxiety. Well this continued to magically happen only about 3 to 7 days prior to my period starting and ending the second my period started. Needless to say I stopped going to that doctor because I know I did not have anxiety and if she would have actually LISTENED to me she would have made the connection like I did. My new family doc was going to have me wear a halter monitor to see what was going on but I had a hysterectomy for other reasons about 8 months ago. I did keep my ovaries. In the past 8 months I have only experienced the funky heart beat thing at 2 would be cycles. So there is no guarantee that will go away. Talk to your gyno about the irregular heart beats and the corrolation to your periods. Maybe he/she will suggest a halter monitor or other testing. As far as the hyst, keep doing your research. There is a forum on here regarding different options. I wish you the best and we are here to help you on your journey, where ever it may take you! Try not to be scared....knowledge is power sister!

Re: New and scared

I had fibroids and had a TAH. Best move I made! I didn't have the high blood pressure or heart palpatations though. Just lots of pain and a general feeling of being uncomfortable all the time.

Good Luck!

Re: New and scared

Have fibroids also. Bladder doesn't enjoy them either. Do not know if they can cause the heart to act up. But they do seem capable of causing more problems than just the usual symptoms. In my case the may haave affected my leg veins. Waiting until after the surgry to see if my Drs. are right in this. Hope you get your answer soon also.

Re: New and scared

Hi Erin,
Did your doctor ever mention PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder? It is an exagerated PMS. I have been told that it has to do with estrogen surges. It makes you suddenly very panicy before your period begins and into maybe the first or second day. If you have the fibroids, they are fed on and a result from high amounts of estrogen. I know all this from experience. At night, lying in bed my heart will start pounding, and all of the sudden I feel very scared. The thing is, there is nothing going on to be afraid of. I can't even pinpoint what it is. Usually hot herbal chamomile tea helps. Other than that it is a waiting game. I was not ok with the feeling of of being "out of it". So I am going at it naturally. No caffeine around that time, and extra rest has helped. Good luck!
My Hysterectomy is scheduled for July 14, so hopefully getting rid of the fibroids will help with all this.

Re: New and scared

I just talked to my doctor yesterday about palpitations I had with my period. She's testing me for Anemia. I looked it up and it is a symptom.

Hang in there!

Re: New and scared

I had anemia and experienced the heart palpitations and panic attacks several times during my menstural cycle.

My anemia was at the chronic level and went lower during my cycles - It made sense to me also that these attacks were related to the anemia as well.

Re: New and scared

I just want to say thank you for all the advice info and being there for me I truly from my heart appreciate it so much. I will definately let my Dr know on the 25th some of the things you all mentioned here. Hormone levels and also PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder I will ask her about this too. And I was thinking that yes when my heart takes off and does the odd beating around my periods it does scare me, but I have tried to be very calm take deep breaths just relax talk to my hubby and preocupy my mind with somehing else. I just know this is all connected tho has to be there is no other cause..because I found out about the fibroids just recently due to the fact that my heart took off BP was up just this past March 10 so really I am thinking those da gone fibroids mabey they are sucking so much energy and blood from me when they are in their phase of growing larger? I dunno gals...see I let my mind go off sometimes because it just drive me nuts. Anyhow taking the suggestions and advice again thank you so much have a blessed week and weekend everyone =o)
