LAVH vs LSH

Hi all,

I am new to this board, so forgive me...I'm still learning.

I have a hysterectomy scheduled for June 28th. The Dr. suspects that I have adenomyosis.....the problem is that, according to ultrasound, I have the perfect insides. He stated that he is willing to do one of the options above. I decided that I would want the LSH, but now am having second thoughts.

I just need advice on which hysterectomy to choose. Also, has anyone else had ultrasound results come back normal, but later(during the hyster), it be found that there is adenomyosis.

I can breathe a sigh of relief for about 1-2 weeks after my period before all the pain makes me miserable in some capacity again..

NEeding advice on adenomyosis and which hysterectomy to go with. I wish they could tell whether I have it or not on ultrasound, so I didnt feel like I was just making all my misery up....

Thanks, any advice is appreciated...

Re: LAVH vs LSH

I had LSH on 5-17. I had ver painful and heavy and long periods. I would bleed for 3-4 weeks. I had an ultrasound that showed a large fibroid growing out of the muscle wall of my uterus. My doctor suspected adenomyosis based on my symptoms. It is not something that you can see on an ultrasound or even with a scope. You can only get the diagnosis with a biopsy, or in my case, that pathology report. My uterus was swollen to the size of a 4 month pregnant uterus. I did in fact have adenomyosis, the fobroid tumor and a small amount of endometreosis. You have to do what ever is right for you. I was very comfortable with LSH. I wanted to keep my cervix. I'm not sure if you can with vagional hyst.? Good luck and don't do anything that you are not comfortable with. Hugs.

Re: LAVH vs LSH

I am two days post surgery, having had extremely painful periods, with no findings on the ultrasound. Let me tell you, the surgical recovery pain is less than the cramps I used to get. Totally worth it. I had a davinchi assisted procedure. Can't recall the abbreviations right now, but the laparosocopy one. One day in castle, pain meds as needed, and no looking back for me!

Agreed. I remember thinking that I was sore, but not as much pain as I was in with my horrible cramps. Its really sad what was normal for me for so long. I suffered for 8 years. I was ready for my surgery. No regrets.
