6 days post hysterectomy - sore vagina and stool softeners?

I had a laparoscopic w/ robotic assist total hysterectomy and both ovaries hysterectomy on Tuesday, April 21st. It went smoothly. I could have gone home the next day, but due to various reasons, mostly convenience, I stayed a second day. At this point upper abdomen is good - surgery line is about 90%, below not so good. Still tender and crampy. Taking a stool softner (finding the balance between too much and not enough) and drinking water. Moving fine. My hypothetical question - if they can add air, why can't they take it out before they close you up?.

Real question - why is the vagina so sore and for how long? Oh - and for how long is there a need to keep the stools soft?

Thanks.

Re: Surgery was 4/21

I can answer some of your questions...
They do let out as much air as they can but some air gets into places and that is what you deal with in recovery.
You are sore for a long time afterward because you just had major surgery, tissues are dealing with the shock of surgery and then healing up and with that you can have inflammation and that hurts a lot when that happens. But its all a part of the healing process.
And when you are allowed to, try some advil or something like it, it can help.
And you just need to keep the stools soft through the early days of recovery to make it easier on your intestines while they deal with the shock of surgery.
Hope this helps
Take care
