surgery reports

I was going to call the hospital to request a surgery report tomorrow. Has anyone ever seen anything their dr. never told them? I did have some unexpected work done.

Hi, I didn't find anything in my report that my dr had not mentioned to me. I did find some of the wording a bit difficult to understand.

Best wishes in your recovery.

I would call the DR to discuss. There were many form I had to sign to give permission to basically do everything but a libotomy (sp) to me.

If you have a question- you need to ask it and get your explaination. Don't hesitate, i think it is best to clarify it quickly while everything is relatively fresh in your DR head.

When you get the pathology, ask you Dr to translate for you. I did my own translation with a dictionary 1st so I had some comprehension. But what the Dr observed personally, will complete the picture for you.

Best to you.

Hi...Medical records are really interesting..and they DO tell you a lot!

Usually you have to sign for them and they will mail them to you from the time you had surgery to the last ER visit..whatever.

I was told I had a uterine polyp, but the reports said I had a cervical canal polyp as well as several small uterine polyps, along w/ larger one.

Just tell medical records you want them for your own personal reasons.

Keep a copy

I would recommend that everyone get a copy of their surgical report and keep it in their own files. You may need it years down the road and have a hard time getting it. I had an ovarian cyst removed when I was 14. In my 30's, I needed to have laprascopy done to look for endo. My Dr. wanted to see the surgical report from my cyst removal. It took quite awhile to get. I have since kept copies of all important medical reports.
