Cant Sleep

most sisters here have had the same problem. it is a very common complaint. what i can assure u is it does get better!!!. it helped me not to nap during the day. iwent back to work about 3 weeks ago and find i am sleeping very sound. as a matter of fact i am a volunteer emt and get pages at night for calls, well that is if i here them. hubby went on a call the other night that i completely missed. didnt even know he had been gone until we caught up with each other the following evening. it is hard to deal with lack of sleep but it will get better!! hang in there and give your body more time to adjust to a very difficult surgery. u will recover and get better. god bless and have a speady recovery

Cant Sleep

I had weeks of insomnia after my hyst. I would stay awake untill 7:00am then sleep till my boyfriend got home from work at 3:30. I was miserable. Tylenol PM just made me more awake.
The insomnia went away the week I went back to work and I have been sleeping ok again. I sleep 1:00am-8-am. Normal for me.
I think when your body is healing it slows down and perhaps we rest so much we dont need sleep?
I was offered a sleep aid by my dr and I declined.
I read more books than I thought possible druning my hyst recovery!

Cant Sleep

I am 5 weeks post-op (TAH/Burch Bladder Suspension) today! I too have had problems with insomnia. I usually fall asleep after 3:00 a.m., my husband wakes for work at 4:15 and I sometimes get up with him, as going back to sleep is not an option. I just lay there, read books, do crosswords or watch TV (really boring at that time in the morning).

My doctor gave me a prescription for nerves (I have a lot going on in my household). He told me that it would "kick my butt and that I would be asleep within 20 minutes of taking it." Ha! It still takes several hours - now at least I am going to sleep at 1:00 instead of 3:00. I am happy to see that I am normal and others are sharing my dilemma. We'll get through this!

I am right there with you. Everyone in my house is asleep and I am up reading or watching tv. I am really hoping this will settle down in the next few weeks.

Cant Sleep

I had my TAH/BSO on 9/22/05. Insomnia has been one of my biggest complaints. My problem isn't falling asleep, I usually do as soon as I get to bed, but then I wake up at 2:00 am and cannot get back to sleep. I doze on and off, but I see 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 every day. I tried natural sleep aids (melatonin, valerian tea), but tey just don't help. I have a prescription for Ambien, but hesitate to use it. I have only used one so far, and of course I slept great, but don't want to depend on it. I noticed I had trouble getting up the next day (still tired). I am still out of work, I go back on the 21st. It is good to hear that once back to work, your insomnia got better. I hope mine will too.

I have had insomnia problems for over a year. I think that it was due to my severe inemia. The Doc put me on Ambien in February or so. I cannot go to sleep without it. After my surgery, even the ambien didn't work, but now 5 weeks post-op, at least the ambien works most of the time. I do think that I am hooked because I can't not matter what, sleep without it. But it does work, and I don't feel groggy in the morning at all. I still am tired most of the time due to the complications of my hyst. I still have more surgery to come which is very hard to deal with. The ambien is very good, and it may help you. We need all the sleep, not rest, that we can get. Good luck!

It's comforting to think that at 3am when I'm lying in bed reading my book, wide awake and watching the hours tick by that you are all also out there with me!
